Whoa, looks like Charles was represented at the Super Bowl! How about that? Keith's brother's a huge Steeler fan, so I'm guessing the post game beers were flowing fast and furious.

Brewer Roundtable - Trade Talk
The question over at Bernie's Crew this weekend was possible trade talk for the Crew. A main discussion point was whether or not the Brewers should consider trading Prince Fielder...which of course I am vehemently against. Check out how CH responded (meaning yours truly) about half way down.
I'm happy with the way the other guys on the other Blogs responded. There was actual realistic non-Journal Sentinel commentator-like analysis. You'll see a common theme of people realizing that teams aren't going to give up good talent (or heck, even comparable talent) for mediocre players like Bill Hall or average pitchers like Jeff Suppan. Here's a few snidbits pulled from some of the write ups that I found interesting or were just good points:
From BTB: Well, obviously I'd love to trade Bill Hall and/or Jeff Suppan, but I'm also a realist.
From BCB: To the right team, Fielder could have some value. He's a slugging first baseman, he's uniquely marketable and any team that acquires him will have him under their control for the next three seasons, although his price tag will escalate over those years. Problem is, Adam Dunn is a comparable hitter and he's still a free agent, so if a team were looking to invest in a few seasons of a slugging first baseman, they could sign Dunn and wouldn't have to trade anything away.
Right Field Bleachers were the only guys who wrote saying they were in favor of trading Fielder for anything, signing Adam Dunn, and then trading Corey Hart too. That's definitely going to happen!
Prince is never going to sign a long-term deal with the Brewers so the team might as well swap him if they can get a nice return, whether that's this offseason or in the future. Also, earlier this week, Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports suggested the Giants would be willing to trade Jonathan Sanchez for Corey Hart. That's an interesting idea too... What I like best about both of these scenarios though is that the Brewers could sign Adam Dunn to fill the offensive hole the trade would create.

Our Popularity Grows
Goldy found us mentioned on a USA Today blog! Yes, the multi-color newspaper blog says this:
"We even could get a chuckle just from the names of blogs we visited: Chuckie Hacks, Thoughts From a Fat White Guy, Kissing Suzy Kolber and Kornheiser’s Cartel."
It doesn't say our content is funny. Or insightful. But they do like the title....So we've got that going for us, which is nice. Maybe they never actually went to our site, rather saw the name and thought it was an old Child's Play reference? Possible.

Milwaukee Brewers 2009 Pitching Options

Management (Brad) has asked me to take control over this little side project (because well...I'm Zeus) although I'm sure the rest of my CH colleagues will take a crack at the answers from time to time.
There's a lot of names thrown around on that round table as far as pitching is concerned...but there's a general consensus that Ben Sheets needs to be brought back...especially if the price is right.

Bigfoot & a Chuckie Hacks update

You're right Mr. Dyer...people were not there. But I think you got a little confused. I think when you were sweating and "pulling this thing through the woods" you were really "masturbating furiously in the woods." But that's neither here nor there.
Also, here's a somewhat related Chuckie Hacks site update. You may have noticed along the right side we added a few more sports blogs under the "good stuff" category. Apparently it's Brewers' week over at The Big League Stew. Methinks the Crew is going to be seeing continued national attention after the All Star break.

Mailbag with Witrado!
This one is definitely worth 8 minutes of your time.
This is a long post. Sorry.
Unreal stuff. Just utterly asinine on both the question and answer end. This is going to be a Monday/Wednesday staple on Chuckie Hacks now. Feel free to comment and cast your vote for that week's "Billups of the Mailbag" award. Witrado actually answered my own question today!

Q: stadush_7901 of Milwaukee - If the clutch hitting doesn't improve soon (say maybe a month), what would happen, if anything, to the leadership of this team?
A: Anthony Witrado - There is good leadership on this team. Guys like Kendall and Cameron are solid clubhouse characters and I doubt they'd allow a slide to carry on off the field. And it's not just clutch hitting, which the team has been good at with the exception of recently, but it's hitting overall.
My REACT: Everybody re-read that question right now. WTF does that even mean? Seriously? What leadership is he speaking of? Ownership? Coaching? Players? How are you supposed to answer that? They are going to cry. They are going to send Prince Fielder to AAA. Moron.
Q: Peter of San Mateo, CA - Can you comment on the quality of Rickie Weeks' at bats? From Yost's comments, it sounds like he has solid at bat and is making good contact, but just has had bad luck. I haven't been able to find his BABIP (batting avg for balls in play) online, but Yost's comments would indicate that it's low. The relatively high differential between his OBP and BA are a positive, as is the high number of runs scored. Can you comment on what you've seen visually about his at-bats? Does it corroborate the quality at-bat, low BABIP thesis, or is he just not doing well? I am in California and have not been able to watch most games to observe myself.
A: Anthony Witrado - Weeks has been striking the ball hard, but as happened again last night, he's hitting balls right at guys. It's weird that it keeps happening to the same guy, but it does. Baseball is one of those sports that eventually evens itself out, so as long as Weeks keeps hitting the ball hard, they'll end up falling for hits. But the strikout thing is still a little bothersome for me. At least he is taking pitches, though.
My REACT: Peter my friend...when Witrado saw that question his pits starting sweating. Do you actually think he has any idea when BABIP is? Puhhhhlease. He totally evaded your question with a bunch of cliche answers that he gives to everybody whenever there is a Week's question. Guess what Witrado? Week's BABIP is around .215. That means he is getting unlucky. Read a baseball book.
Q: John of Milwaukee - Where can one find statistics re how likely a runner is to score from 1st with no outs vs on 2nd with one out, etc.
A: Anthony Witrado - Baseball prospectus or maybe find some Bill James books.
My REACT: Allright...at least he pointed them to Baseball Prospectus...but how about a little effort here! How about a basic run-expectancy matrix table Witrado? Go ahead...type it into Google...see what happens! Overall...bunting sucks!
A: Anthony Witrado - Wow. How about he's right-handed, so no. The majors isn't a place to learn how to hit from the unnatural side of the plate.

Where do you and Tom stand on that argument? There are so many great blogs about the Brewers (Brew Crew Ball, Chuckie Hacks) that in my mind serve as mainly a way for people to get excited about this Brewers' season. I don't see anything wrong with that! Do you?
A: Anthony Witrado - Not so much, but those people are also not in the clubhouse gathering inside info like Tom and I. Blogs are all good as long as you know which ones are informed and which ones are just fans. I also hope people don't mistake the people who write the fan blogs for actual journalists. But to better answer you, no, I don't see anything wrong with it.
My REACT: That was my question (notice the shameless Hacks plug). Ahhhhh...the classic "inside info" argument. I bet he could tell me when Prince shaves his pubic hair or when JJ switches to a new color jockstrap. That makes you much more knowledgeable on how the Brewers are actually playing (sarcasm alert) and gives you justification in your analysis.
I just blasted Witrado pretty bad here...so I got to give him my Billups vote. Overall...I think he's a pretty solid beat writer. No denying that. And I am definitely not a journalist. From the sound of his answers though he's got a lot to learn about the actual game itself.

A little behind...are we?
What's this? Deadspin links a blog who writes about Mo Williams' ridiculous injury (pubic symphysitis).
Too bad this story is a month old and I wrote about it the day after the injury report came out.
This just goes to show that politics are still alive and well in the blogging world, and that it is tough for the little guy to make his presence known. It's also yet another example of how Chuckie Hacks is your 1 stop shop for all groundbreaking WI sports news on the internets.
Or maybe I just like writing about myself. I'm not sure really. But we can all agree that it's funny that Mo Williams seriously missed a game due to pubic symphysitis.

Milwaukee Brewers Preview - in Poetry
Since I am a clever SOB...I was able to score writing the 2008 Milwaukee Brewers Preview for AOL Fanhouse. The only thing was...the preview had to written in poetry of sorts. Never one to shy away from a writing challenge, I threw together this little piece:
The brats are boiling in Brew-Town,
As fans of the Crew no longer frown.
With Braun and Fielder leading the way,
There's no need to worry about Turnblow's day.
We got JJ, Hart, Ben Sheets & beer,
It'll make you forget Jenkins played here!
If we can minimize Yost's decision-making,
The NL Central is ours for the taking.
The playoffs are looming so get on the train.
Us fans deserve it after years of pain!
Go Brewers!
I never miss opportunities to throw in a little Jenkins' bashing. Hopefully this Thoreau-esque poem becomes the platform of a dominating season.

This is why I would be just an amazing GM. I was able to grab Amy Winehouse in the 6th round of my Celebrity Death Pool. Just wanted to remind everyone...no big deal.
