Nats GM Resigns - Fans Didn't Know They Had One

Nats GM Jim Bowden resigned yesterday, just as Spring Training games are firing up. Great timing. Looking at his era in DC, I'm not sure if Natty fans even knew they had a GM.

Bowden quit in the midst of an investigation that he's been skimming signing bonus' from Latin American players since 1994. Great job, loser.

Playoff Odds

The brilliant minds over at Baseball Prospectus keep an ongoing Postseason Odds link up on their website, so basically at any time you can check in and see what you're favorite team's odds are!

How do they compute it? Hell...I don't know. Try reading through all that stuff. I guess they run a million different simulations and then base their odds on that. A million simulations seems like an appropriate number.

Here are the current odds in the NL to reach postseason:
Mets - 68%
Phillies - 30%

Cubs - 99%
Brewers - 78%
Cardinals - 16%

DBacks - 57%
Dodgers - 43%

If you break the Brewers 78% down, they are 72% likely to win the wild card & 6% likely to win the division. So yet again, just another example of how impossible it is for the Brewers not to make the playoffs this year.

An ohhh...the Nationals...yeah their playoff chances are at 0%, along with a few other teams. Enjoy September guys!

We'll check back on this odds report a few more times the rest of the way.

Thanks Nationals!

The Nationals coming into town is like back in college when you went over a month without getting laid. What do you need? Slumpbuster baby. It's like one of the girls you hang out with bringing one of her home town friends over to party for the weekend. Sure, she's a little "big" but you know what, her lower half ain't too bad and she's looking to party. You take care of business, and confidence is back.

Next thing you know, you're back on a hot streak. You walk into Buckhead Saloon and start picking off co-eds 1 by 1. You're hot. That's what San Diego is. A team you can just pound on and continue the winning ways.

Let's go. Keep that hitting streak alive.

No offense National's fans...

...but your team sucks. I mean the Nationals are truly terrible.

Anytime Ron Belliard is your first baseman I can't imagine there is much to be happy about.

Nationals Park West?

I'm pretty sure this photo was taken during the middle of a Nationals game earlier this year...must've been between innings
.
The Brewers and their fans are bracing themselves for a raucous atmosphere this weekend as they welcome the Washington Nationals and their ravenous fans to Miller Park. According to the Brewers team website, "limited tickets -- single seat, obstructed view and standing room only -- remain for all four games of the Nationals series."
.
So far in 2008, Washington has averaged a cool 29,946 fans per game in their brand-spanking-new ballpark. But don't let those numbers fool you.
.
"I just hope our fans stick up for us for once this year," said outfielder Corey Hart. "We know the Nationals fans will be out in force."
.
The Brewers are unveiling a "take back Miller Park" campaign this weekend. Ned Yost hopes to avoid another "four game party" for Nationals fans this weekend.
.
Brewers fans are pumped for the series.
.
"I'm planning on throwing a can at a bus full of Nationals fans and hopefully getting my ass kicked," said some dolt from West Allis. "It's gonna be awesome."

Ray King: A Model Of Health?

Ray King "...hardly has a gut..." Say it ain't so?

A new man: Reliever Ray King arrived in camp in the best shape of his life. He lost 23 pounds and hardly has a gut. King decided to stay away from junk food and sodas and start working out with son. He said instead of going to In-N-Out Burger, King ate salmon instead.

King decided to lose weight after watching some video tapes of himself dating back to 2003, when he was with the Braves. He felt that being overweight changed his mechanics, which prevented him from making better pitches.

"I had a reality check," King said. "I felt I had to better myself physically. I feel good. I look back and I say, 'What if.' You can't dwell on the past. The only thing you could try to do is change it and see what you can do about the future. The main goal was to try to drop these pounds and see if it could make a difference."
