OK, so I'm probably a little slow on the up-take on this one. Johnny-come-lately, if you will.
But I came to a shocking realization tonight as I watched the Brewers pummel Edinson Volquez and his straight brimmed hat.
(Sidenote: I even saw Manny and Prince do a fist bump! And Manny didn't accidentally miss the fist bump and punch Prince in the face! Maybe they like each other! Maybe the sky didn't fall last night!)
Do you remember old #5 for the Brewers? Corner outfielder, Mr. Brewers from the mid 90s to the mid 2000s? The Glue?
This guy?
I guarantee something awesome just happened right there
Well, it seems that while the Packers are defacating all over Brett Favre in Green Bay, his look-alike is being similarly miterated upon by the Brewers (although certainly more quietly).
They gave Ray freaking Durham #5? Really? This guy?
Dude doesn't even know what sport he's playing
Frankly, I'm shocked that the Crew hasn't retired The Glue's number. Shocked and saddened.

They should never have given Jenks the number after B.J. Surhoff left anyway.
It's not really disrespectful. Durham's had arguably a better career, and while GJ is a fan favorite (one of mine, certainly), his numbers are that of an above-average, servicable corner outfielder, not someone whos number you retire. If they retire Jenkins 5, I want Cirillos 26 retired as well. Not that he's super-deserving, but he's my favorite non-pantheon Brewer.
Excellent piece of satire Matt. Excellent.
Retiring Jenkins' number. Ohhh...what a hoot!
Mike Hegan, first Brewer ever to hit for the cycle, was, I believe, the original Brewer #5. To have given anyone that number after he left was truly the insult.
I'm glad you caught my sarcasm, Woz.
