Packer First Round Pick?

Who do you want? What position do you want? Who do you NOT want?

I have to promote my favorite conference, the Mountain West (don't ask). The Packers need a safety, and here are two: Eric Weddle (Utah) in the 2nd or John Wendling (Wyoming) in the 4th/5th. These guys are studs...you herd it here first. "If he's such a stud, how did he end up at Wyoming" you ask? A Wyoming native, that's how.

Admit it Chopp - you got that Weddle guy from watching Mel Kiper. He's been pumping that guy on Sportscenter.

Can't admit that - I try to avoid BooYaaCenter at all costs...herd about Weddle through my "other sources." Ha.

Assuming the Packers are trying to contend this year...(and by contend I mean 10-6 or 11-5 in what prolly will be Favre's last year), then a first round running back is a necessity. If the guy from CAL is there...the Pack have got to take him, Vernon Morency is not a franchise running back.

I'd like to see the Pack make a move for Dwayne Jarrett late in the first. He'd be a great fit with burners like Driver and Jennings.

DB is stocked in this draft, so late round pickups will suffice. The Pack's defense is its strongpoint right now...

Yup....Lynch is the guy. If he's not there, maybe trade down a bit, still add a guy like Jarret or Olsen later in the first round, and with the extra picks you get from trading down you could maybe grab 2 2nd rounders or late 1st. Irons from Auburn, or Bush from Louisville who would've been a top 10 this year but he broke his leg in the 1st game. If you can't get a franchise RB then you'd better at least grab a handful of above average guys.

I'm voting for Reggie Nelson from Florida. Lynch seems like the obvious pick, but I've herd he has some character issues. And that zone blocking scheme seems to make mediocre guys pretty good. Get a RB in the 2nd/3rd.

CNN's mock draft has Nelson going in the top 10. Not that this means anything.

I say do everything you can to trade up for Calvin Johnson. Make a trade with somebody to get into the top 10, then trade your top 10 pick along with something else to the Lions or Raiders for Johnson. The Packers have so many young guys right now they can take a chance and trade some of their picks this year for Johnson.

Yaeh....everything I've seen has Nelson long gone by the 16th pick. Of course, Leinart should never have fallen to #10 so there ya go.

Really? Most I've seen has Nelson in the 15-22 range. I guess that's why those mocks are useless.

PICKS The pack need picks more then the Buckks do at this point and thanks to past mistakes have very few. This is a deep draft and I would trade my first rounder for a few late round selections. They need more then just 1 guy. Mostly RB and OL. But what do I know I'm a Bear fan. BEAR DOWN! ps Briggs is a selfish a-hole.
