Unofficial Chuckie Hacks Poll - Halladay Edition

Roy Halladay is purportedly available in a trade. I heard on the radio that Jayson Stark hears that the Jays want "5 or 6 players, including your team's top 2 prospects" in order to get Halladay.

While that is ridiculous posturing on the part of the Blue Jays, if you ran the Brewers what would you trade for Roy Halladay? A package centered on Gamel or Escobar? Gamel and Escobar?

Personally, I'd give up Gamel or Escobar (not both), plus Parra (whose brain might work better in a country on the metric system) and I suppose another mid-tier prospect. I don't think the Brewers could do more than that, although Halladay is signed through 2010 at a relatively reasonable $15+ million next year. To be clear, I'm not saying the Blue Jays would take this package - it's just the most I'd give if I were Doug Melvin. Parra is a young left handed pitcher with physical upside, Escobar is the top SS prospect in the minors.

Halladay is a super pitcher who has done it for years in the tough AL East, and (captain obvious alert!!!) a rotation with Halladay and Gallardo at the top is much better than a rotation with Gallardo and ??? at the top. It might even make Ryan Braun happy.

How much would you give?

Ugh, you are getting caught up with the uninformed masses.

A lot of Brewer "fans" (who really only became fans in the last 2 years) were spoiled with last year's success and the CC trade and think something like that is going to happen every year.

There is no good trade out there now. We can't give up our best prospects every year just for a shot at another 1st round playoff exit.

The future is very bright for this team, especially in the next 2-3 years. Why mortgage that success for a shot this year that is way short of a sure thing.

Play this year with the guys we got and if we don't make the playoffs, no big deal. Come back next year with all our prospects, Prince available for a big trade if needed, Hardy available, etc... and prospects to fill in those holes.

If they trade Gamel and Escobar for anyone this year, Melvin needs to be fired.

Gamel, Escobar, Parra, Angel Salome for Halladay and Scott Rolen- they want to dump Rolen's salary anyway, you can put him at 3rd, McGehee at 2nd where his throwing issues won't be as much of a problem. Salome's prospect spot is filled by Jonathan LuCroy, McGehee can the the 3rd baseman for the next few years. I'll miss Gamel and Parra, though.

Halladay is signed through 2010.

First poster, could not agree with you more.

We still have to have a medium to small market mentality, simply can't "go for it" every year.

Gamel and Escobar must stay. If someone wants to take Hart or Hardy off our hands, go ahead and let them.

The bottom line is the division will be won at 86-88 wins. If we can't get there with the current club, we don't deserve to contend anyway.

Someone is going to have to convince me that Escobar can hit in the majors before I consider him untouchable.

I think that the trade market is going to help the Blue Jays as there are a lot of contenders and Halladay, with the injury to Peavy, is the only real option to trade for to get a serious starter. The Blue Jays can and will expect to get a lot because there is a huge demand and almost no supply. These conditions, combined with what the Brewers gave up for CC depleting some of their reserves, will preclude them from getting Halladay.

I fall some where between caller number 1 and Jake.

Last year's CC experiment was like catching lightning in a bottle. That was a once in a generation kind of event. If it happened every year in baseball the national media wouldn't have made such a big deal out of it. We also still had Sheets for most of the second half.
Just getting to the post season is not reason enough to deplete the farm system. At this point, making the playoffs isn't even guaranteed.

Time to develope the talent that we have and stop trading away the future.

If anything we should be looking at trading prospect hitting for prospect pitching not rentals.

Obviously, pitching is not the only problem here anyway.

Mike Hunt wants the Brewers to trade Gamel for Javier Vasquez.

I would give up Gamel, Hart, Hardy, Koshanskey, Ned Yost IV, Jeffress' pot dealer, Cutter Dykstra, and Chris Bosio...

Who are we getting in return? ... it doesn't matter... i'll give all those guys for cash considerations...

Was there a rebate when we traded for Gerut? You know, one of those Menards ones where you can't deposit it but can only use it at the store? The crew could use a ten pound bag of dog biscuits!

Can we pick up a Offensive Catcher???

Parra, Escobar, and a mid-level prospect wouldn't be close to enough. Parra could be a washout, Escobar could easily be another JJ (.225 hitter) and who cares about a mid-level guy. Toronto would ask for those guys and Hart.

Halladay is gone and Jays fans are wondering what will be next. Roy was a class act and will bring great things to any organization. Good luck Roy
