Jim's Favorite Team

Jim Paschke said something that I thought was really interesting during the Bucks broadcast on Saturday night vs. the Wizards.

He mentioned his latest blog post on Bucks.com, where he said that he wrote:

This may be my favorite team in the 23 years I’ve been handling television for the Bucks.

At first I thought that was a little crazy. Paschke started announcing Bucks games in 1985. But I then realized that the Bucks have been generally turrible during Jim's years behind the microphone. Like .468 winning percentage turrible, with teams that won 30 or less games 7 times, including a thrilling 20-win season.

Yes, his tenure includes teams that won 57, 50, 49, and 52 games, including the magical 2000-01 team that went to the Eastern Conference Finals and almost earned the right to be steamrolled by Kobe/Shaq.

But this current team is very likeable. They have 20-win talent without Redd and Bogut. But they try hard, which honestly is 1/2 the battle in the NBA. As a result, they generally win the games that they're supposed to win, and even manage to win some games they have no business winning.

I like this team too.

That '00-'01 team was the only team in the NBA that year that beat the Lakers twice (i.e. they never lost to the eventual champions).

It's too bad the guys that play hard will be gone next year and it will be back to Redd and Bogut and their selfish, lazy play that we've seen the past 3-4 years.

Anyone who says Bogut is selfish on the basketball court is a true idiot who has not watched one Bucks game the past 4 years.

Not only did the 2000-2001 Bucks sweep the Lakers, they swept the top 4 teams in the Western Conference, goint 8-0 against them.
