Manny Parra = Vegas Party Animal

Kobe Bryant.

Michael Phelps.

Terrell Owens.

Barry Bonds.

Manny Parra.

Wait...Manny Parra...what?

Oh yes folks. Manny Parra. He likes to party. According to this WSJ article...he's been known to hob-knob it with some pretty cool people. He's "in" with some of the people "in the know" with certain Vegas entourages. I'm going to say no the entire article as it is a must read. Here's the parts on Parra:

On a recent night, Mr. Sabathia and Mr. Jones were joined by Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Manny Parra. After watching a Kings game, they piled into a tricked-out party bus and around 3 a.m, unsuccessfully tried to squeeze it through a Jack In The Box drive-through to order more than $100 worth of fast food. Several weeks later, Mr. Parra and Mr. Jones went to the airport, caught a flight to Las Vegas on Southwest Airlines and, upon collecting their luggage, were whisked in a town car to the Palms casino. There, Mr. Jones high-fived nearly every staff member and shuttled Mr. Parra into the VIP check-in lounge. "I've never felt like part of somebody else's entourage until now," said Mr. Parra.

On Super Bowl Sunday, Mr. Jones watched the game from a black leather couch in the Palms casino's Playboy Club next to Mr. Parra, pro skateboarder Rob Dyrdek and several young women, while waitresses in bunny ears and puffy white tails served Mr. Jones margaritas. After Larry Fitzgerald's 64-yard touchdown catch, Buffalo Bills center Melvin Fowler ran over from across the club to give Mr. Jones a high-five before plopping down and asking about his plans for the night.

Mr. Parra watched Mr. Jones and wondered aloud: "How does he do it? He's not the athlete, he's not the celebrity, but in a way, he is. Sometimes I think I'm too humble."

My god. Parra? Seriously? Parra rocks it out in Vegas? Parra knows people? Parra seems to me like the kind of guy that Braun and JJ make fun of when they go out.

Picture a scene out in some LA club this offseason. Braun's got a table and has invited JJ out for the weekend. They've got their whole crew out there. 5 dudes, 8 chicks at the table. Parra strolls up:
Manny - "Hey guys! Ready for spring training?"
JJ (says nothing...looks at Braun)
Braun (surprised look on face)- "Manny? Hey...dude...what are you doing here?"
Manny - "Well...I was out in Vegas this past week, I'm just kicking it now for an extra week out here. What do you guys think of Macha? I hear he's a hardass."
Braun (without missing a beat)- "Coaching is irrelevant. I'm hitting 42 bombs this year irregardless. Who were you out in Vegas with?"
Manny - "My guy Julian...and some of his chronies."
Braun - "Julian Jones?"
Manny - " know him?"
Braun - "Yeah...I do Manny. Hey listen, it's not cool to make that shit up (he stands up...immediately 2 security guards move to the table)."
Manny - "Wait...I'm serious man..."
Braun (to guards) - "Show this guy (Manny) the door please. (to Manny as he's being escorted out) You better win at least 15 this year you dead-arm by August chump."
Manny (kicking as he's getting pulled away) - "!"
Braun (looks at JJ)
JJ (doesn't say a word for a minute...then leans over to girl next to him) - "Isn't Ryan the coolest guy you know?"

Scroll down to "Usage note"
Here I'll copy and paste it for lazy people.

Usage Note: Irregardless is a word that many mistakenly believe to be correct usage in formal style, when in fact it is used chiefly in nonstandard speech or casual writing. Coined in the United States in the early 20th century, it has met with a blizzard of condemnation for being an improper yoking of irrespective and regardless and for the logical absurdity of combining the negative ir- prefix and -less suffix in a single term. Although one might reasonably argue that it is no different from words with redundant affixes like debone and unravel, it has been considered a blunder for decades and will probably continue to be so.

Hence why I use the word Birdhas...

Thought it was interesting that irregardless does mean regardless in casual writing, how can this be? Irreversable means the opposite of reversable...someone please help me here.

You use the word because you believe that Ryan Braun has a propensity to talk using words that have been

"considered a blunder for decades and will probably continue to be so."

I thought he was your boy? Your not making him look very intelligent.

re the 4th place mentioned in the other thread, a combination of pecota and two other projections has this:

cubs: 93-69
cards: 83-79
brewers: 80-82 (rounding down)
reds: 80-82 (rounding up)
astros: 77-85
pirates: 68-94

That looks reasonable... Although (and I know we could be saying this about Milwaukee, STL, and lots of other teams, too) who the hell is going to pitch the Reds to 80 wins?

I'm not so sure about the Cardinals this year. I know it's dangerous to doubt their pitching with the Wizard Duncan as coach, but honestly who is going to pitch for them?

Wainright. Lohse. Wellenmeyer. Piniero? Are they counting on Carpenter? That's dangerous. He apparently just had (another) surgery in November to "transpose a nerve in his right elbow."

I don't know what that means, but it doesn't sound fun.

In closing, irregardless.

harang, volquez, arroyo, cueto isn't terrible. in fact, i would probably take that 4 over any other 4 in the central (after z, harden, lilly and dempster).

And then JJ fisted the chick.

WV -

What other two projections are you using? PECOTA has the Brewers at 86 wins.

Goldy said...

Obviously irregardless.

I could totally see that scenario happening exactly as you wrote it.

PECOTA, SCHMECOTA. The Brewers are having a .500 year, out of the playoffs. And the Cubs still won't win a playoff game regardless of how many regular season wins they have. I just hope the Brewers lose enough to keep the bandwagon jumpers out of MP.

here they are. looks like an earlier version of pecota is used here:

Wow... using the order version, PECOTA and Marcel differ by 9 games. 12 if you use the newer ones. That's quite a difference.

YOU ARE not making him look very intelligent. Maybe YOU ARE not making yourself look very intelligent.

And Zeus, don't be so hard on Manny. He's a Top 10 Baseball Hottie, ranked slightly below Braun. Personal opinion, of course, but REGARDLESS, I'd do him!
