A Trevor Hoffman Update

Thanks to Jagr for the tip. From RotoWorld.com, via CNNSI.com -

Brewers GM Doug Melvin told FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal that he has interest in signing free agent closer Trevor Hoffman.

Melvin believes the interest is mutual. The Dodgers have also been in talks with Hoffman, but if the all-time saves leader wants to close games in '09, Milwaukee is the better fit. Jan. 6

1 year, $10 Mil

That would be an utter travesty.

Since Hoffman would only make 20 appearance...because the starting pitching staff wouldn't be able to get the game to him with a lead.

I'd be shocked if he gets a $10 million salary in this market, given what K Rod, Wood, Fuentes signed for.

$6 - $8 million seems more reasonable. At that price, it's worth it. Who else is there? Plus he doesn't cost a draft pick.

It was a gagne reference....nevermind.

Oh, I know...

I was saying that more to the effect that i'd rather give those two the shot at the CL role than Trevor Hoff-Man.

Yeah I got the reference, too.

But the fact remains you're still talking about Dougie M.

He's going to do this deal for something like $7.5MM in 2009 with a vesting option at 10 saves for '10, thus guaranteeing the 2nd year at $12MM.

If its better than that, I'll be shocked. But why the hell does Hoffman want to come here for less than he wanted from the Padres? Particularly if we're only going to give him 1 year.

Ah well, so much for a fucking starter. Looks like we're screwed this year.
