Ryan Dempster has re-signed with the Cubs. The deal is reported to be 4 years and $52 million. Dempster has been rewarded handsomely for his excellent 2008 performance.
My gut reaction is that the money sounds about right (average of $13 m per year) but the length of the deal might be a year too long, if I'm a Cubs fan. But I suppose that's the market for pitchers like Dempster.
I'll be honest, that guy shocked me last year - I kept waiting for him to hit a wall but he didn't. We'll see if it continues, but the Cubs got their guy.

feh. they wouldn't have gotten him for three years, and that's about right from a market standpoint, apparently.
not sure how it will go long term, however.
Well he hit the wall in game 1 of the playoffs, but that is expected when you have Cubs on your uniform.
great original thought there, WV.
thank you. it speaks nicely to my ambivalence.
hopefully he doesn't turn into a Suppan... he should be young enough to bypass that though
greatone ... as opposed to a certain pitcher who allowed six hits, four walks and five ERs with brewers on his uniform.
Congratulations to Ryan Dumpster for luckboxing his way through the 2008 season and scoring himself a massive payday in the process.
After he penned that deal...he let out a huge sigh of relief. Now he can settle back into mediocrity.
You've got to love free agency.
