The FIRE NED YOST POLL

All right Ladies and Gents...time to go on record...

DO YOU LIKE THE TIMING OF THE FIRING OF NED YOST (12 games left to go).

Go on record in the comments section.

My react: Basically, why the hell not. He wasn't going to be here next year anyway...might as well not let him bask in the glory should they make it with the Wild Card.

Well, better timing would have been August of 2007, but this is better than waiting for the off season.

I'm neutral. We won't make the playoffs with him and we won't make the playoffs without him.

He was gone after the year anyway, and Sveum isn't being "auditioned" for the full-time job during these 12 games, so it really doesn't matter one way or another.

Love it, but that's because I can't stand Ned. I am not sure if it will help the team at this point. Is there a precedence for a contending team to fire the manager this late in the season? Either way couldn't have asked for a better bday present. To quote the great Jake Taylor "Well, there's only one thing to do, Win the whole fucking thing!"

Baffled. If Haudricourt is right that this firing came at Attanasio's direction, it looks like our owner has a touch of Steinbrenner in him.

Yost was gone after this season anyway. He was failing in his job of getting the Brewers to the playoffs, so why not dump him and try something else? We've got nothing to lose. We can't be any worse off without him.

Should have happened in May, after the Boston sweep. Or after last season. Either way, it's long overdue.

How about Lou Brown as manager next yearr? At least we wouldn't have to suffer through any more of this "ole" bullshit.

I guess I am in the nothing to lose crowd. I don't necessarly like it, but I guess something had to be done.
So if great things happen and Sveum rides this club to the World Series, do the Brewers have to bring him back next season?

Think its great I don't have to worry any more if we are going to extend Yosts contract because "he has got this team back in to a contender." I think that any babysitter could have down as well as Ned Yost. My 13 year old cousin with a class at Thomas Jefferson Middle School on how to stich a jersey and change whinning babies diapers could do a better job.

nah nah nah nah, nah nah nah nah, hey hey hey, GOODBYE.

Attanasio showed balls today. I like it.

PS. Fuck Corey Hart.

I love the move. There's no risk. We weren't going to make it with him, why not try without him?

At the begining of the season I thought it was either postseason or bye bye Ned. Attanasio & Melvin reiterated that point numerous times this year, spending more money than ever and dealing prospects for real players rather than vice versa.

Yet Ned still sat there, insisting no series was bigger than the next and claiming with confidence his guys would find a way to battle out of every jam.

In the end, the Phillies series was bigger than any series in the last 16 years. The Phillies showed that by rearranging their pitchers for this one. Ned just stayed the course, and got run over. That's not leadership.

Absolutely, I am 100% in favor of this. This kind of 2nd half losing streak that you can practically set your watch by should never be acceptable. The loser's mentality is to "be happy to have meaningful baseball in September" and "think of how much progress we've made." Blowing a 5.5 game lead in the Wild Card in 2 weeks, when we've been the 2nd best team in the NL all year, is reason enough to fire him. When you factor in last year's collapse and how the mojority of fans/media don't care for him, this was probably 2 years overdue.

I'm in favor only because I was sure this team would not make the playoffs with him as manager, and I think those chances are improved now with someone else. Whether that improved chance is 1% or 50%, we shall see. With the days off and the incompetence of 2/5 of this starting pitching staff, it would sure be nice to see CC-Sheets-Bush-McClung repeated 3 times and sit Parra and Suppan to maximize the chances of this team getting to October baseball.

Mark A thought "I invested an assload of money on this squad...I'm not gonna sit here and watch Ned direct this ship into an iceberg for a SECOND STRAIGHT YEAR!!"

Of course, I agree with Mark...but still think Yost was around 3 years too long.

By the way, a friend told me Kendall caught 27 innings in 36 hours?? Is that true? WTF???

lets try this again...
Pretty shitty timing but maybe it will spark the players that actually liked him try and go and 'win this thing for Ned' since it is ultimately their terrible play that got him fired. This team is still 3 games above the pyth W/L, if you are into Sabermetrics.

Be interesting to see how Dale manages the bullpen...hope he was taking notes from the coach's box at 3B.

Well, it should have been done about 4 months ago, but today is better than tomorrow, and this team is better equipped to go towards the post season today than they were yesterday.

too little too late, but I am tipping back a few in celebration!!

I think Mark and Doug made a good call. If you go to your manager and he has no idea what caused such a tailspin and has no solution to it, that MIGHT be your best option. I think Ned had the enthusiasm for his players but the pressure of a competitive team got to him and he wasn't quite secure enough in his position. I wonder if Simmons had much influence. He doesn't seem to be an imposing guy, but I have to think he had some ideas on how to get things going. If nothing else, this has to have done wonders for the fans who actually pay attention to the games. I personally am feeling revived as a Brewers fan.

I like it because it means no more Neddy, but honestly, what sort of impact is Sveum going to have? I don't see much changing, unfortunately... A continuation of a bad regime. As always, I hope I'm wrong

I'm strongly in favor. Should've happened in May, and after last-season, and mid-season last year, and August of 2006...

Looks like I'm in a serious minority here.

The move was moronic, at least in terms of timing. There was no way they would have made this move at the end of August, a scant two weeks ago, when the Brewers were the best team in the NL that month. So why make it now?

Baseball is a game of streaks. Ned's not the one slumping at the plate. He's not the one blowing games out of the bullpen. For all his faults (most of which involve his defense of players with the media, not game-related stuff), he had the team ~20 games over .500 and on the brink of the playoffs. At the beginning of the season, you'd be lying if you wouldn't have taken a scenario which involved a tie for the wild card with 12 games to play.

If they miss the playoffs, they would have made the move anyway. If they get into the playoffs, does Sveum get all the credit? Hardly. Do they make him the manager for years to come? Probably not. It's all on the players, not the manager. He can only do so much. Some of the blame has to fall on Melvin too. He's the one who brought in Gagne, Riske, et. al.

If you use the same logic with regard to firings, do you fire Skaalen for Prince's slumping? He's the one who "coached" him to be the youngest player to hit 50 HRs. Do you fire Maddux for the bullpen meltdowns? Hardly.

The Brewers just made themselves look foolish. Attanasio just made himself look like the West Coast version of George Steinbrenner.

While I agree it should've been done a long time ago it may not be too late. All this team needs is to get hot at the plate and the sky is the limit. They could easily rattle off another good month of baseball. Maybe this change is enough to create the spark they need.

I totally agree with the move. After getting guys like Sabathia and Durham, Melvin couldn't sit back and watch the team collapse again. Maybe it won't work, but something had to be done.
