DirectTV or AT&T U-Verse

As the calender has turned to August, it appears the Time-Warner will not be adding the Big Ten Network to its channel line up this season. So, it is finally time to dump TW and sign up for U-Verse or DirectTV. U-Verse is relatively new and I have not heard much about it either way. Never heard anything bad about DirectTV, but will have to find a separate Internet service provider then.

What sayeth our 8-plus loyal readers? Anyone have any recommendations? Thanks

I'm not real happy with DirectTV at the moment. I had to pay extra to get FSN north for Brewers games. Then, the channel shuts off after the post game, so you don't get any additional programing. No Ryan Braun story, or Baseball Golden Years...

I have UVerse, and I've had it for a little over 6 months. I also added the wireless internet service about a month ago I got sick of TW Cable too.

NFL Network & Big 10 are included with ATT&T, so that's a plus. I think the only channel of any significance that you might lose is AMC with UVerse. (I was kind've into that show Breaking Bad when I switched)

I've never had to DVR 4 shows at once, but it's nice to know that the option is there. Honestly, for the price and the two channels I mentioned above it's a ton better than TWC. The Uverse packages go 100 is basic, 200 (I have this one) offers a few more channels, 300 includes movie channels, and the 400 level gives you more sports channels tha you will ever need. I don't need to catch the FSN feed of the wrap up of the DBacks game, thanks.

I think it's under $100 per month for UVerse 200 w/DVR+HD service+wireless internet. I've never had a problem. Sometimes it's a pain calling them or paying your bill, but if you handle that stuff online it's OK.

Oh yeah, that's another thing... All of a sudden my crappy DirectTV DVR is only capable of recording the show I'm watching... Just a little bit fucking pointless.

Thinhs for the info Storm and AP. I was leaning U-Verse going in to the process. I just want Big Ten Network so i don't have to watch random Big East games at 11 am.

With the UVerse DVR the only problem is it can record 4 shows at once, but it can only receive one HD program/channel at a time. You can't even record one HD channel and watch another HD channel. It sucks if you are recording something and trying to flip back and forth watching two NFL games on a Sunday. Sometimes you have to just suck it up and watch a non HD channel. But, that's not a world I want to live in.....

The 1-HD-stream-at-a-time thing makes Uverse a non-entity for me. No way I'd consider it.

DirectTV stinks in storms, IMHO.

I agree with DirecTV sucking ass during a storm. Sometimes it doesn't even need to be a storm for me, it will be heavy cloud cover, which totally blows. I can't get U-Verse and I REFUSE to bow to the TW beast.

Not true about u-verse only recording one show at a time. A while ago that was true (or so I heard). I've recorded and watched more than one HD show at a time with no problems.

Re: UVerse DVR only records 4 shows at once.

Per my installer, depending on the WIRE distance to the fiber drop in your neighborhood, you can get "standard" or "extended" service.

Under 1000 feet, you can receive and record a max of 4 channels simultaneously (2 SD and 2 HD or 3 SD and 1 HD or 4 SD)(Bottom line, max of 2 HD of the 4 channels recorded).

Note that when recording 4 channels, you cannot view a fifth channel.

Uverse is super. Love it.

I suggest DISH Network. The FSN's are included in their America's Top 200 which you can get with a price guarantee until 2013. Also, they have the Sling Adapter so you can stream all the games in your programming onto any mobile device. I work in DISH's tech department and love the abilities DISH's gadgets offer, no limitations is the best kind of service. :)
