1980s Flashback

Watching the 7 hour marathon that is the Home Run Derby reminded me of these: The Tidal Wave aluminum bat. Anybody remember these? A softball bat filled with water?!? They weighed at least 56 ounces and did absolutely nothing to increase hitting power, yet everybody wanted one. Actually, it was only partially full so as you swing the bat, the water would gush from the handle to the barrel as you made contact. What a POS. I couldn't find a single image or story about them on Google, so those skeptical will just have to trust me on this one. Man, it was like swinging a sequoia.

I definitely remember that bat. An amazing amount of hype.

Speaking of the HR Derby, was anyone in it other that Josh Hamilton? Wouldn't know it by the ESPN broadcast. Who even won? And did you know about his story? Apparently he was really screwed up but for now he's good. Don't know if that story has been told yet...

Remember the bent-handle bats? Those were dynamite. Not.

I heard a rumor that he had a dream about the HR derby too.

I heard that Hamilton is a 5-tool player.

The Tidal Wave bat. Outstanding. That thing was brutal. Wasn't the point to transfer the weight from the handle to the barrel to hit is further? It felt like you were swinging a log.

Cork works better than water for a wood bat.

First things first, Yes I remeber the tidal wave bat, but having grown up in good ol PW I have to ask Brad, when the hell did you play softball? Baseball on Crestview yes, you were a ledgend.

p.s Hamilton wasn't a druck addict he was a heroin and coke addict, I loved how they kept tossing that out like candy at a parade.

Nubs, I was part of the Matera Dentistry powerhouse...but that was well after the Tidal Wave bat phenomenom.

The Tidal Wave was used messing around on Monroe St. We were forced to use tennis balls after Adam Poull put a softball through Flipper Prom's Chrysler Minivan winshield. Good times.
