I just about vomited when I saw that. K bye season! I thought I wouldn't have to see Dave Bush pitch until Sheets went on the DL. F'in Reed Johnson better get a fastball to the temple the next time we play the Cubs. Son of a bitch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAITTTTTTTTTT - He wasn't sliding to beat Prince to the bag. He slid to avoid the tag. Big difference on sliding into first or not, Mr. matt....
Sorry Matt, not idiotic to dive into first ....Little Leaguers know you slide head first into first whenever the first baseman or person covering the bag is drawn off of it and may tag you. My 13 year old son won the game for his team the other night because he saw the first baseman drawn, dove in safe and winning run on third scored with two outs.
And guess what -- the other team's first baseman and pitcher are all good and healthy teenagers today.
That's OK -- there's actually a name for Yo's graceful movement on the field: a "Murton"
Sliding into first base is reckless, regardless of the circumstances.
Anyway, we're all having difficulty coping here, so please excuse anonymous and his hostility. Remember how it felt when you found out that Wood or Prior got hurt for the first time? Gallardo is our Wood or Prior.
I'm comparing him to the Wood and Prior who got hurt the first time - they were both great young pitchers then, just like Gallardo is.
Thankfully this is a knee and not an arm injury. If professional basketball and football players can come back and even thrive after an ACL surgery, I think a pitcher can certainly handle it.
brenley says it's ok to avoid the tag - or when you're seeking to injure someone (i may have made the last part up).
but i must ask after watching the video again: why didn't the 350-pound first baseman just throw it to the pitcher?
as for wood and prior - their injuries never seemed to be serious. we were always told they'd be back in 15 minutes or so. nothing to see here. it was like being boilded to death. at least now you know what you're getting and can move on.
as for anonymous - i'm going to have to stop visiting and linking here if you can't control your anonymouseses. that hurts my feelings.
I also have no problem with that play.....except for the result. And the fact that somehow he was allowed to come back in and pitch on a torn ACL. So actually, change that. I have exactly 2 problems with that play.
Go away Wrigleyville. You hayseeds have problems much bigger than this, lol. And you Cubs fans need to learn some class before we play you again in July.
"Who knew that an innocent little ballgame on the first day of May would send the Chicago scribes into such a frenzy? Is this what Cubs fans feel like too?"
My intent was not to mock Wood - only the buffoons who cover the Cubs.
The overreaction to Wood's struggles yesterday (which happens to all closers - even the mighty Eric Gagne) was merely the subject matter through which I could mock said buffoons.
Oh, and I can't in good conscience actually blame Reed Johnson for his slide.
Hell, even at lunch today we were talking about how lucky it was that Gallardo wasn't hurt on the play (oops) and somebody asked if I saw the play and if it was dirty in any way, and I said no - it was a legitimate play. Most of the time, the only guy getting hurt in that situation is the guy sliding.
I'm just looking for somebody to be mad at. I think I'll just blame Ned Yost.

This fucking franchise is cursed and will never win a World Series in my lifetime.

Unreal...just unreal.
Yost said Bush would be back up very soon. He must have looked into his crystal ball or something.
Of course. It would have been too good to be true if he were fine.
Can't wait to see Dave Bush again. Puh!

I'm sure Sheets will have a completely healthy season...(Vomits.....weeps gently on keyboard.)
Do they still have Claudio Vargas' phone number?
speaking of "exercising judgment and keeping things in perspecitve" ... come on, guys, it'll be ok.
Reason #1,326 why it's idiotic to slide head-first into first base.
I watched the replay of that play last night and couldn't believe that he wasn't hurt. Ugh.
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAITTTTTTTTTT - He wasn't sliding to beat Prince to the bag. He slid to avoid the tag. Big difference on sliding into first or not, Mr. matt....
Go fuck yourself Wrigleyville
that's just not nice talk...
but lord knows i've tried.

Bad break for Yo, though. Actually liked him.

Don't compare him to Wood & Prior. I am still holding out hope that Gallardo ends up...you know....good.
Shouldn't the 350lb first baseman bear some responsibility for trying to outrun a leadoff hitter rather than tossing the ball to his pitcher?
I'm comparing him to the Wood and Prior who got hurt the first time - they were both great young pitchers then, just like Gallardo is.

I don't think the Cubs leadoff hitter was involved in that play.
Our 'should be' lead-off hitter.
It's hard to remember that far back to the "first time" Prior or Wood got hurt. It seems so long, long, long, long ago.
johnson led off the inning...
Well, regardless of how he got hurt, it's done.
We'll see what kind of team this is now - one that picks up their teammates and starts to hit the baseball?
Remember that "surplus" of starting pitching we had in spring training? That was only like 6 weeks ago.
Yo - hurt
Cappy - hurt
Vargas - cut
Bush - sucks
Sheets - hurt once alreay
Jeff Weaver time in the near future???
Throw a "d" in the word "alreay"
It must be said, matt: This news broke just as you posted your item mocking Kerry.
Karma.
I have no problem with Johnson sliding head first on that play.

How exactly did I mock Wood?
I merely spit back what the Sun-Times columnists had to say about him.
Is it really mocking Wood to say that I think Marmol is a better option at closer? I think not.
oh no oh no oh no ... anonymous doesn't like me here... booohoooohoooo....
all chuckie hacks readers are always welcome at wv23. we like you guys.
Kid BS, matt.

Karma does not apply here. You know this.
you better explain that to karma. 1:32 post time for your kid bs vs 1:34 for yo.
not that i want you to be blamed.

and the venezuelans.
I'm pretty sure his ACL was torn before 1:34 today.
And Kid BS is Mariotti's line, not mine. I just repeated it - you have to admit that it does have a nice ring to it.
karma works in strange ways...
Anon,
I may in fact need to learn some class, but I'm not sure my manners has anything to do with this.
