Sorry Matt, not idiotic to dive into first ....Little Leaguers know you slide head first into first whenever the first baseman or person covering the bag is drawn off of it and may tag you. My 13 year old son won the game for his team the other night because he saw the first baseman drawn, dove in safe and winning run on third scored with two outs.
And guess what -- the other team's first baseman and pitcher are all good and healthy teenagers today.
That's OK -- there's actually a name for Yo's graceful movement on the field: a "Murton"
Bad break for Yo, though. Actually liked him.
Sliding into first base is reckless, regardless of the circumstances.
Anyway, we're all having difficulty coping here, so please excuse anonymous and his hostility. Remember how it felt when you found out that Wood or Prior got hurt for the first time? Gallardo is our Wood or Prior.
Don't compare him to Wood & Prior. I am still holding out hope that Gallardo ends up...you know....good.
Shouldn't the 350lb first baseman bear some responsibility for trying to outrun a leadoff hitter rather than tossing the ball to his pitcher?
I'm comparing him to the Wood and Prior who got hurt the first time - they were both great young pitchers then, just like Gallardo is.
Thankfully this is a knee and not an arm injury. If professional basketball and football players can come back and even thrive after an ACL surgery, I think a pitcher can certainly handle it.

as for wood and prior - their injuries never seemed to be serious. we were always told they'd be back in 15 minutes or so. nothing to see here. it was like being boilded to death. at least now you know what you're getting and can move on.

Hell, even at lunch today we were talking about how lucky it was that Gallardo wasn't hurt on the play (oops) and somebody asked if I saw the play and if it was dirty in any way, and I said no - it was a legitimate play. Most of the time, the only guy getting hurt in that situation is the guy sliding.
I'm just looking for somebody to be mad at. I think I'll just blame Ned Yost.
