We've Got Spirit, Yes We Do

Evidently, when you make the playoffs as a #2 seed under the GM-ship of Ted Thompson, it's cause for celebration in Green Bay.

The Packers have announced that they're holding a 3-hour pep rally on January 11 at Lambeau Field.

According to the Packers:

The free event will be centered in Lambeau Field's north end zone seating area. A stage will host a live band, as well as a special live TV program. The pep rally also will feature Packers officials, including Chairman Bob Harlan and President and CEO-elect Mark Murphy, and Packers alumni, including Frank Winters and Jerry Kramer.

No word on whether the booster club is selling candy before the rally to pay for new football uniforms, but anonymous sources within the Packers organization said that homecoming king Brett Favre will be crowned in a surprise ceremony.

I'm sure they're encouraging fans to bring a shovel, just in case they need to clear the bleachers prior to the game.

Matt,

Are you a Packer hater? I know they do some goofy stuff up in GB but thats the charm of the team. I hate people who wear cheeseheads however I also like the fact we have an identity as stupid as it is. I am glad we have a team that is truly a key element of our community and pep rallys (even though I would never attend one) are what makes GB Packer fans unique.

I like the Packers on the field.

But doesn't everything that goes along with the Packers just get tiring, especially when things are going well? The Milwaukee TV stations are actually going to televise this stupid rally. I'm sorry, I just think that this is bush league and a little embarrassing, frankly. Maybe it's just me.

What are Milwaukee TV cameras supposed to show? The Bucks?

I will agree the hype around the Pack is a bit corny but it is also what makes GB interesting. I do get somewhat tired of it however I often compare WI to how Colorado reacted to the Broncos. It was bitch bitch bitch bitch when anything went wrong and then when they did something right they were the greatest team ever.

The nice thing about Packer nation is that for the most part we are a content fan base that truly appreciates the team and most importantly the relationship with the team.

I saw james Jones in Festival Foods in DePere on xmas eve and he was wearing a Packer sweatshirt and no one was bothering him at all. I thought that was awesome and I think in only happens here.

I would gladly take a Packer Pep Rally over shitting in my hand for the Brewers or whatever that stupid thing was this summer.

If it's a free event, why was there an ad in the Journal today that said "To purchase tickets...."

I think it's "free" to go but you still need a ticket to get in.

I think you have to buy a ticket if you want to have the honor of shoveling the bleachers.
