This is funny since it comes from Brad. For those of you who do not know this Brad puts food on the table for his lovely wife and kids making a his dimes as a..... wait for it.... Cartographer
Growing up, I actually wanted to be a...wait for it...cartographer. Then my parents told me there was no money in that. Now, I'm going to school to be a science professor and there's no money in that either. Go figure.
Tony - I say Cartographer is a layman's term for what I do. I'm not a cartographer. What I do is more complex and, thankfully, makes a more cash. I'll just leave it at that and not bore people with the details.
trust me when i say its not complex, and if i'm missing something that brad does its definitely NOT high paying either, unless he's using his fluffing skills on his boss... which is always a possibility
maybe back then it was a little more exciting than staring at a computer all day with your thumb up the ass trying to make it more than five minutes straight without checking the net. i think 4:28 is still the record

Brad,
If "Cartographer" is only Layman's Terms Brad maybe you can share with us Laymen what the industry insiders refer to each other as?
I believe they refer to each other as "fluffers".
jamjam - I wish I had your parents. Ha.

Basically what Brad does is not "more complex" than a Cartographer, just more boring...HA!

We mock what we do not understand...
This is good stuff. My Grandfather was a Cartographer in WWII- He'd kick all your asses.
So Cartography is a family business for the trains? Nice. I like it.

Indeed...you could say I'm pedigree.
My grandpa wrote the book on Cartography 'Elements of Cartography' with Arthur Robinson.
A check kept coming well into the 1990's from his publishing company. I actually used this book at UWLaX in one of my classes.
