Ouch
Ouch. That one hurts. The highs were high (see Weeks, Dick) and the lows were low (see Wise, Matt). Wise hasn't gotten a guy out since the All-Star break, but lets see what he can do in the 10th inning in a pennant race. I reject that. He and Aquino shouldn't even smell the mound unless it's a 7 run lead. Dick Weeks straight up money in the 9th! A couple questions: why does Brad Lidge still close for a major league baseball team? And, Hunter Pence...why do you not understand the purpose of a warning track? That was funny. Lee's homer is still orbiting the Earth. Who else is shuddering at the thought of losing Cordero in free agency and putting Turnbow in that roll next year??

I haven't read anything about the game last night, but can't think of a legitimate reason to have Wise in that game.
Or, if you do bring him in, once he gets in trouble why not bring Coco in to try to get out of that mess? He hadn't pitched in the series yet.
I also reject Matt Wise.
I made a 20 bet with some guy at Leff's last night: He was trying to tell me the Brewers are going to sign Gagne next year for 8-9 million. I am still flabbergasted by that statement of ignorance.
I gave him 2 to 1.
Worst game of the year to watch last night. Somehow Dave Bush bats in the top of an inning...then gets PULLED BEFORE HE GOES OUT IN THE BOTTOM, at 75 or 78 pitches. Yost claims he was "gassed from running the bases." Well guess what...THEN HE SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN RUNNING AT ALL. That pinch runner guy would have scored on Dillon's double. I have never seen such horrible management in one single ballgame.
I loved the "gassed from running 1st to 3rd." WTF? It wasn't Ray King running...it was Dave Bush! Then again, Bush and the 7th inning go together like Johnny Estrada and 40 yard dashes.
It was Wise's fault for not executing. I blame Bush for not making it home from 1st on that play, he didn't execute. Ned Yost is a good manager. Johnny Estrada is fat. It's not like Yost was the one who gave up those runs. Managers are not important.
No kidding Wise didnt do his job...he's MATT WISE!!!! Who put him in that situation?
Nobody has ever stated that Managers are not important. Some times...in baseball a player has to execute...however in last night's game, there were just some decisions made which go against common mothereffing sense.
-The Dave Bush Fiasco.
-The fact that the best hitter in the NL is not playing after the 7th inning.
-Our best pitcher doesn't sniff the diamond on two days rest in a close game in a pennant race. CoCo needed to be on the mound in the 10th & 11th...its that simple.
-Our All Star shortstop doesn't play because of a "tight groin." Then somehow he manages to play in the late innings.
I have never seen such idiocy.
I heard Yost on the news saying how this whole playoff run has been a fun learning experience for him. I don't know about anyone else but as a fan that statement makes me cringe. He has spent 5 years as a manager in the major leagues preceeded by a coaching stint with the most successful baseball team of the 90's, I don't think he should necessarily be learning much at this point in the game. I'm sure Yost is saving Coco for the postseason. What a Billups!
-Not so anonymous Jake
Nice Billups referance. Woz is taking this thing global!
The first "Billips" reference on Chucky Hacks! I like it!!!
At least Yost didnt see Braun's spot in the lineup come up again in the 9th....oh, wait...screw it. Everyone would rather see Gwynn batting in the 9th instead of Braun.
Not saying I agree with all of Yost's tactics, but if Braun stays in the game and makes an error in the 8th that costs the Brewers the game, people would be complaining about the lack of a defensive replacement.
Having said that, I think in a 1-run game, you need to leave Braun in the game becuase with this bullpen, it is way to easy for the opponents to score runs. The 3-run lead seems to be the correct margin to take him out.
The Braun replacement thing was like #8 of what was done wrong last night.....
Goldy,
When did you become Michael Hunt with that great both sides of the fence analysis?
I agree with Tony.
At the same time, I disagree with his comment.
