Lou Holtz - Irish Cheerleader
So I came across Mark May and Grandma Lou Holtz picking their College Football top 10 on BooYaCenter last night. Unfortunately, I stopped to watch. The top 10 was pretty standard: USC, LSU, Wisconsin 4th, blah, blah, blah. The fun started when the host, Rece Davis, asked “give me a team just outside your top 10?” Mark May gives us TCU of the Mountain West. Not too big of a shocker, many have them as this year’s Boise St. If they get past Texas (yes, that’s a big “if"), they go undefeated. Then comes Granny Holtz with……you guessed it….Notre Dame!! May and Davis even started ripping him. They lose their QB, RB, and top 2 WRs from a team that wasn’t even top 10 last year!! I’ve herd educated football people say they have a chance to go 6-6, a good chance.
This is just one example of the annoying homerism on ESPN. Has anyone else noticed? Actually, how can’t you. In 2005, Boston homer (and great baseball writer) Peter Gammons picked the following: David Ortiz for AL MVP, Pedro Martinez for NL Cy Young, and Nomar Garciaparra (WTF?) for NL MVP. See a trend here? If it's Tom Jackson and Mark Schlereth propping Denver, Steve Phillips the Mets, or Mike Irvin the Cowboys, the homerism by these ESPN personalities never cease to amaze.

Too bad Yount isn't photogenic or articulate enough to do that sort of thing
Who is the worst/most annoying analyst on ESPN?
My pick for baseball is Eric Young.
Anybody hear about the 82' Brewers signing autographs during lunch today downtown at the Pfister. Some guy just walked by my cube and told me a whole bunch of those guys were just hanging out and there was barely anybody there. Who does the freaking marketing for stuff like that? I'm pissed I missed that.
I'd vote for Berman in general.
I wonder if Holtz will get ESPN stuck on probation just like every other place he left.
Here's the link to the video of this absurdity:
Lou Holtz likes Notre Dame's chances in '07
Thanks for the link Jay.
Some would say Andy Katz (UW grad) doesn't do enough to promote the Badgers. I don't agree with this sentiment. I think he does pump up the Badgers, just isn't as blatant about it as the ex-players and coaches.
He is an idiot. He always hates and never picks LSU. In 2003, when LSU won the BCS, He voted for USC even though LSU beat the hell out of his Gamecocks that year in Columbia. I can't stand him
