Braun Update

Braun's been lighting up this sweet scoreboard in Nashville.

Ryan Braun at AAA:
65 ABs, .323, 7 bombs, 14 RBI, 3 SB, 1 error

Craiggers/Graffy Combo:
110 ABs, .223, 0 bombs, 9 RBI, 1 SB

Hmmm...

We are hurting for offense; Braun can't be that horrible defensively. The future of this team is the kids-Hart, Gwynn, Hardy, Fielder, Weeks and it's not the vets like Councell, Menchkins, Graffiuseless, or even WI homeboy DMiller. Call the kids up, and let them play. I gurantee Weeks was worse defensively 2 years ago than Braun would be, and no one flinched at calling Weeks up prematurely. By the way, whose toes does Corey Hart have to suck to start 3 games in a row? The other night the guy goes bunt single, steal 2nd, steal 3rd, and score and that was after he had a great game defensively in right a night or 2 before that. PLAY THE KIDS!!!

I agree that at some point Braun should be up this year. However, 2 years ago, they could tolerate Weeks' terrible D because they were not a legit contender. This year, they are a legit contender and can't afford to let the prospects work out the kinks at the ML level.

Good argument for Braun...numbers don't lie. However, since numbers don't lie 12 and 7. Another issue is who do you drop, Counsell is clutch and Graffy is sucking it up. I'm going to let Ned keep pushing the right buttons for now.

I'll vote for sending down Gwynn (give him ABs, we already have 6 OFs). Braun starts vs Lefties and %50 of RHPs, Counse vs the other RHPs. Graffy and Counse are utility.

I can't believe I'm about to say this, but I agree with keeping Braun in the minors. Counsell and Graffanino (usually) do things for the team that wouldn't be Braun's strengths right now - move runners over, bunt (when Ned lets them), take good at bats, etc. They're professional ballplayers. In a fantasy baseball league, Braun makes a ton of sense. In real life, you have to have guys that know their role.

First of all Goldy, use "contender" sparingly. They are 5 games over .500 with over 135 games left in a close division that includes the world champs; at this point everyone but the Devil Rays & Nationals are contenders. Second, assuming they ARE legit contenders and considering your other points, why are they willing to let Hall "work out the kinks" at CF? We have maybe 3 other CF who could probably play better defense, but we don't have 3 3B who can play better offensively. I guess my point is: Why is/was it Ok to suffer through Weeks and Hall's defense and not Braun's? By the way, last night these two guys went a combined 0 for 12, so we aren't exactly reaping a ton of offense from those two minus one pretty moon shot from Hall in Florida.

I should specify that by "legit contenders" I mean in the NL Central. They have played every team in the division at this point and I have not seen any team that is going to blow away the rest of the division. Why not the Brewers?

Counsenino is just not cutting it.

Absolutely why not the Brewers, they are definitely playing out of their collective NL Central skulls right now. But again, Hall's baserunning, fielding, and offense have all been TERRIBLE after the 1st 20 games. Will Hall get sat down for Gwynn at CF? Answer-NO. Graf/Counce have been sub par at best, will they move Hall to 3rd? Is our Juggernaut team SO GOOD and out to such an enormous 3 game lead in the division in April that even considering moving someone unthinkable? Moving Hall out of CF would clear up this anoying OF logjam, and Mench/Jenkins/Hart/Gwynn/Gross should ALL collectively be getting more AB's right now. This is just like last year when it was unthinkable to even entertain the notion of sitting Jenkins against lefties because he made an all star team once and gets paid a lot. They didn't finally give in on that until maybe August, and stuff like that could kill our chances of contention. I could keep writing on this forever, but the point is our entire core is like 23 years old. If these kids come along and we can keep the majority of them we will do a hell of a lot more than contend. I don't care whose feelings get hurt, just as Yost shouldn't.
