"Chris" Everett and the 1986 NFL Draft

Bouncing around YouTube last night I stumbled across one of my favorite live TV moments ever - the Jim Everett smackdown of Jim Rome after Rome kept calling Everett "Chris". Personally, I wish more athletes would pound Jim Rome...

That got me thinking about Jim Everett (forgot all about that guy) - did you know that he was the 3rd overall pick in the 1986 NFL Draft? I checked out the first round of the 1986 NFL Draft just for kicks. Wow, what a train wreck. Is this the worst first round in the history of the NFL draft? I mean, other than Everett, who have you even heard of in the first round? Neil Anderson might have been the best player in round 1 (drafted with the last pick in the round by Chicago), Keith Byers had a long career, and Leslie O'Neal was a pretty good rush defensive end for the Chargers on Tecmo Super Bowl (remember Marion Butts on that Chargers team? - awesome) but besides that...ugh.

Wow, I was a pretty big football fan in the 80's. But of the top 20 in that draft, there is a whopping 12 guys I never herd of!

Will Wolford had a solid career but you are right very pathetic. Those rookies cards are not worth much

Wow..great commentary Mcmanny! However, I think one of "The Greatest" tecmo bowl legends of all time Bo Jackson went #1 that year right before the great Tony Casillas. For some reason it doesnt show #1.

I loved perusing through that draft and seeing some other noteable tecmo stars....2 solid LB's went late in the 2nd round right after each other, Pepper Johnson and Seth Joyner right after some dude from UW-Lacrosse.

P.S. I think that Romey incident was staged, it made his career. Plus, do you ever listen to him interview guys now, he totally kisses his guests ass!

Nice catch Htiek - maybe Bo and the NFL are in some kind of a dispute so they won't show his name on their website...that's weird. Bo Jackson's presence in that draft makes it about 1000% better.

Don't forget about John Offerdahl and Cap Boso - two other Tecmo Bowl standouts drafted in 1986.

John Offerdahl: Fort Atkinson, WI native, by the way.
