Brandon Phillips isn't impressed...

So the Brewers finished up a sweep of the Reds this afternoon with a standard Brewer type victory: got up early then opened it up with a home run, then coasted the rest of the way with Yo on the mound. Nice game for a Sunday.

But Brandon Phillips had a little more to say after the game.

>"I feel like we're a better team than the Brewers," he said. "But today, they executed better than we did. They did the little things. We didn't do the little things the last two games. That's why they won the game."

Now, I don't mind Phillip's confident attitude (Example A: Ryan Braun thinks he's the best baseball player ever) but I just find timing of the quote sort of amusing. His team just got swept in a series in relatively convincing fashion in 2 of the games by a reigning playoff team and current division leader. He then chooses that time to state that he "feels" his team is a better team.

I'd also like to know if he considers 2 & 3 run home runs to be "little things."

For the record, I do think the Reds are a dangerous team with weapons at the key spots. Just now sure about them over a 162 game season (pure opinion). I just found the fact weird that Phillips would choose to say this to the media at this juncture. We'll see if his quote gets any reaction from the Brewers clubhouse the next day or so.

If this is how we play against teams that are better than us, I hope we are the worst team in the league this year. Brandon Phillips... more like Brandon Billups.

Well, at least he didn't untuck his shirt.

So...

Did anyone else notice that Deadspin is basically nuking its commentators?

I hope to god that doesn't happen here. I love it here. I'm not funny, interesting or nice. I hate the lazy-ass gay jokes. But I am a hacker, through and through.

Peace, ya'll

We welcome all 32 loyal followers of the blog to say whatever they want. Unless it is something positive about Corey Hart.

Speaking of... Did Corey fall asleep at home and let his kids play with his hair clippers? Why does he think that changing his hair will change his luck at the plate?

TRY CHANGING YOUR APPROACH!! I don't know...maybe don't swing at sliders 10 feet off the plate for starters?

Goldy... i'm doing this just for you...

Corey Hart is a fucking faggot-ass piece of shit.

(I DO hate Corey Hart. With a passion. Give me Cole Gillespie.)

I'm impressed that Brandon thinks that the Reds' swag is real nice, even after getting swept out of Milwaukee.

Though I'm not sure if he still thinks the pitching is gorgeous.

Speaking of Corey Hart...

The Tigers, Giants and Red Sox have all scouted and/or discussed the possibility of acquiring Corey Hart, reports the Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo. The Giants and Red Sox both have pitching to give, with the Brewers needing a starting pitcher. Hart got off to a slow start on the year, but a couple recent strong games have pushed him to .256/.330/.415 on the season. He makes a lot of sense for the Giants. If the Brewers were to deal Hart, either Jody Gerut or Frank Catalanotto would likely start.

Why do the Brewers need a starting pitcher?

Woz said...

Ummm...

I don't want Jody Gerut or Frank TV to be my starting RF.

What starting pitchers are on the block...and who is getting taken out of our rotation?

brad said...

Mrs Gerut and/or Frankie have no buisiness starting in the major leagues - let alone on a playoff team.

DOGY said...

Agreed. Gerut and Caliendottnato are in ther position they should be- Back ups. And Gerut should GTFO... Part of me wishes they'd traded TGJr for a single-A pitcher so we wouldn't have to look at JODY Garrotte. I'd rather have Jody Reed!

Maybe they trade Hart for prospects and move Billium Hall to the OF?

Here's what they should do.

Trade Hart for a young stud pitcher. I'm thinking Clay Bucholz, Jon Lester, or maybe Tim Lincecum or Madison Bumgardner.

Straight up.

Then take the savings that they get from unloading Hart and go sign Geoff Jenkins to play RF.

Sincerely,

Matt, don't forget about possibly starting Gwynn Jr in CF, and moving Cameron to RF.

Next time I read a blog, Hopefully it won't fail me just as much as this one. After all, Yes, it was my choice to read through, but I actually believed you'd have something useful to talk about. All I hear is a bunch of moaning about something that you could possibly fix if you were not too busy searching for attention.
