According to CNNSI Travel, Milwaukee a Top 5 "Great College Basketball Town" to visit along with Lawrence, Chapel Hill, Bloomington, and Spokane (Gonzaga).
There is no football team at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. That means students and alumni are even more dedicated to the men's basketball team, they say.
Marquette may be a Jesuit university with just over 11,000 students, but it boasts one of the highest attendance rates at basketball games in the country. Students at Marquette don't pitch tents like at Duke, but the games are so popular, some will bring their sleeping bags 10 hours before the game to get the best seat in the house

Ummm... Marquette can't even sell out all of their Big East Games, let alone their cup-cake non-conference schedule. Madison STUDENTS pay amost 200 a year for BBALL season tickets and they still have to camp out to get the best seats. Water Street over State Street?! What a joke.
this is bs, wisco is better in every way. madison has the kohl center, mu has the bradley center, which they cant even fill up. mu students are more concerned with spending their daddy's money than following a basketball team.

2008 attendance, UW top 10, MU top 20. but whatever, I do think the atmosphere at the BC aka the fortress is much better then than Kohls.
Apparently, the good folks over at CNNSI have never been to the industrial shithole that is Milwaukee, WI.
Ahhh...yet another lovely proof of Milwaukee's superiority over The Capital.
Madison is a kiddy poker game. Nickels and dimes. Milwaukee is the big table. High stakes.
Right Woz....just add this to the murders, rapes, dumping shit (literally) into lake michigan, traffic jams, corrupt police department, etc. Milwaukee is clearly separating itself from Madison.
You're right Lofty, none of that happens in Madison. Sigh...
I like Milwaukee and Madison. Madison has better attendance than Marquette primarily because it has more students (and also, therefore, more alumni).
Lofty,
Madison's lakes aren't exactly "clean." Madison's crime rate is lower (although it's rape rate is much higher), but it's deceptive because it's just as easy to stay away from "high crime" areas in Milwaukee as it is in Madison. I'm no more likely to be mugged in 53202 than I am in 53703.
Yep, we're all rich kids from Chicago that hang out in clubs and VIP tables all night because we have so much money.
You're jealousy is showing.
Oh, and I didn't get into Notre Dame so I had to come to another "rich kid" school.
And because there are no other sports options in town.
CNNSI forgot to warn visitors to not wander 2 blocks north of campus.
Oh well, they'll probably figure it out on their own.
What a joke. Four students camp out for one home game this past season and suddenly Milwaukee is God's gift to college basketball. The stadium isn't even on campus and it's a piece of shit. The fieldhouse had more life than that dump ever will. Does anyone have a picture of the fans reacting to when they changed the name of the team to Gold? That was priceless.
If you guys can read it says "Great" not greatest.
But since it has something to do with a school in Wisconsin not named UW I can see why you would be so upset.
MU still holds a majority of the records for attendance for bball in Wisconsin, you can suck on that as well.
Totally agree with the article. The kiddies in Madison definitely don't have the knowledge of the game that MU students and fans do. They just show up, read the signs to know when to cheer and go back home.
I'd put UWM fans ahead of Badger fans even.
Some will bring their sleeping bags a whole 10 hours before the game! Wow! They must be the best fans in the world. Badger fans are out partying it up 10 hours before the game begins. Marquette fans are acting like homeless people.
I don't think Milwaukee is a top 5 "Great College Basketball Town", thats a real stretch. But, I do think they're equal to or slightly higher than Madison in regards to Basketball. Top 5 though, are you kidding me? Putting them in the same sentence as Lawrence, Chapel Hill and Bloomington? Get real.
And who ever said UWM has better fans than UW, I hope you're kidding. UWM had great fans for three years when Pearl was there. They're an after thought in this city now, they barely got 3,000 people to show up for a home game in their conference tournament.
Yeah, great fans.
You guys are all morons. Madison and Milwaukee both suck, it's too fucking cold here. Fucking frozen hellbox we live in here.
Neither city cares nearly as much about basketball as other sports.
We all need better things to do with our time...
