Bucky NIT Bound Again?

I'll be honest - I wouldn't be shocked if Wisconsin missed the NCAA tournament after losing to Ohio St. today, blowing another late lead.

They finish 19-11, with a pretty good RPI and very good strength of schedule, but they were only 4-9 vs. the RPI top-50, by my count. And only 2 decent road wins, at Michigan and at Virginia Tech, with a bad road loss at Iowa. So they played a lot of good teams and lost to most of them.

Maybe it's just the pessimist in me, but I don't think they're the mortal lock for the tournament that everybody else seems to. I hope I'm wrong, because I don't want Brad to miss out on one of his favorite things about the NCAA tournament.

I will also say that I loathe watching games against Ohio State and their stupid matchup zone. Man up Thad.

There is a possibility that 8 Big Ten teams make the dance. There is NO WAY they leave out the team that finished the regular season in fourth place. This NIT talk is ridiculous. This team is in.

Like someone from ESPN said last night, they're not that good but there will be a bunch of them in...

As disgusting as that makes me feel, I have to agree.

Maybe 2 make it through to the 2nd weekend.

Bucky's statement win is over Illinois, a team that has failed to crack 40 points twice.

Anonymous, are you talking about UW or Penn St.? Both teams tied for 4th in conference at 10-8, along with a couple of other B-10 teams.

The Badgers are IN. They beat Penn State twice which gives them the nod. The team may not deserve to be in, but they are an absolute lock to make the big dance.

If the badgers don't make this tournament than Matt is the best blogger on Chuckyhacks.

And what the hell does the title of this post mean anyway..."Bucky NIT Bound Again?" AGAIN??? They haven't been to the NIT in over a decade. And they won't be going this year either.

They're far from a lock. I wouldn't be shocked to see them left out.

The "again" was a subtle (too subtle for some, apparently) poke at Brad, who said they were NIT-bound back in January during the 6-game losing streak.

Bucky's in. There's like a 5% chance that the committee does something nuts, I suppose, but they'd really have to punish the Big 10 for that to happen.

Honestly, I am a bit more worried than all these Bracketologist people seem to be. However, Lunardi nailed all 65 teams last year and he doesn't even have them as a "Last 4 in" team. I think the fact they went 10-8 in the highest or second highest RPI conference will do the job for them. Plus, outside of SIU-Edwardsville, they didn't schedule anybody completely terrible. Plus, that SIU-E game doesn't even count when the committee looks at the Badgers since they are a transitional D-1 team. I guess what I am saying is, I am pretty nervous, but the "experts" think they are in.

They just said Penn State is probably in, or most likely the last team in or the first team left out. If the cut-off point is Penn State, the Badgers are in. Relax.

It is the pesemist in you.

They are in but will lose first round.

The would be better off in the NIT.

Badger fans seem to be pretty apathetic to this year's squad. Two of them told me "I'd rather be in the NIT" and one said "I hope they dont make the tourney because I'd rather not take off work Thur/Fri to watch them."

Now THATS some team spirit!

Those people are not true fans. I'm sure they root for the Cubs as well. And I'm sure they were saying the same thing in 2000 when they made the run to the FF. Who even watches the NIT? If you don't want to watch them, get off the bandwagon now. Glad to see you go.

Actualy, they are "true fans" owning season tickets in multiple sports, traveling to see the Badgers across the country and donate cash to the school. But I guess if anonymous says they're not "true fans," it must be true.

Those "true fans" who say they would rather see the Badgers in the NIT are grade A first class dipshits. I am sure they would have rather seen the underwhelming 99-00 team that entered the tourney as a #9 seed in the NIT as well.

Just because you have season tickets and travel to a couple road games doesn't make you an expert fan. Actually, I have found it makes you more likely to not have any actual sports sense. Seriously, anyone who makes a "better off in the NIT" comment should have their nuts cut off.

Well put Goldy. First nomination for Comment of The Year.

maybe they were thinking about the 2006 badgers instead of 2000.
