Really?

You thought this would be about how the Packers have two starting Pro Bowlers, both from their putrid defense. Not yet. I just can't get over those Bud Light "Drinkability" commercials. You know, the ones with the tag line:

"Bud Light - Not too heavy, not too light."

Bwwwhahahaha....yeah, likes there's ever been a person in the history of the world who's ever complained that BUD F#CKING LIGHT was "too heavy??? That's like saying Tony Gwynn Jr's power numbers are "too high."

Back to the Pro-Bowl (not that anybody watches this thing) I'm glad for Woody. He should have made it last year instead of Harris. He played well (really well 1st half of the season) with a fractured toe. Good job Wood. As for Collins...I guess those TDs made a name for him. He's (along with every other safety on the roster) been banged up and not very effective lately, but has made some big plays this year. If he didn't get in, I'd be fine with that too.

Per Wrigleyville's request, we're supposed to mention Favre going to Hawaii and Rodgers is not. Rodgers has better numbers ("God #4" has had as many sub 80 QB rating games as over 80), but Brett has the wins, right? Well, if it comes down to wins and "Favre turning around the Jets", how about the guy they kicked out of town - Chad Pennington. Miami goes from 1-15 to 9-6 and he has a minuscule 6 INTs with the 2nd best QB rating in the AFC. Favre? An NFL leading 17 picks. How about Big Ben getting snubbed? Leading perhaps the best team in football, while playing crossover games vs the AFC South and NFC East, rather than the Jets playing the putrid NFC West and AFC West. Good enough, WV?

Bah. Brett Favre is the NFL version of the Yankees and Red Sox.

Everyone covers him and claims its because its what the viewers want. When in fact it is what Chris Mortenson wants. I wonder if they'll name their love child "Aaron"

it was good enough when matt mentioned it in the earlier post, but whatever it takes...

Clearly the Packers would be 17-0 right now with Favre. Yes, 17-0, he would account for that many more wins. Philip Rivers should have gone over The Worldwide Leader's love child. I was so pleased that The Worldwide Leader kept reminding me last night that this is Favre's 1st Pro Bowl with the AFC. All those year's Rachel Nicols lobbied the NFL to have Favre on both teams was unsuccessful.

My favorite Brett Favre memory is during that playoff game in OT a few years back when he picked of Hasselbeck and took it to the house for the game winning score VS Seattle.

Sweet Holy Moses that guy was a shut down corner for a couple years there.

I think my 2nd favorite was that game were he literally played 11-on-1 VS the Lions and led a 4th quarter game winning drive with a late TD pass to himself.

My third favorite was the time he died for our sins. Actually, I'm pretty sure he did that twice.

How is Brett Favre not deserving? He leads the NFL with 17 picks (I'm prett sure those are all the inept Jets receivers fault), he's single handedly turned around the Jets (contrary to the belief that the other big additions the Jets made in the offseason helped the turnaround), he's had to overcome a conspiracy against him, his father died, his wife had brest cancer, his brother is a hillbilly dirtbag who gets drunk and kills people in ATV accidents...

Again, how does any of that not make him deserving?

Phillip Rivers and Chad Pennington both got robbed.

Favre is a puke. I guarantee he will not go to the Pro-Bowl...or the more I think about it..maybe he will just to spite the Pack

They gave Favre the nod because they know he's not going to actually go to Hawaii, so they can suck his cock without taking up a roster spot.

Oh, and Wrigleyville needs to work on his own blog and stop worrying about the almighty CH.

I'll never understand the psychology behind the Favre hatred.

He never did anything to Packers fans, except quarterback their team to an unprecedented 15 year run of success and help (along with Ron Wolf, Mike Holmgren, Reggie White, etc.) pull the franchise out of the morass of suckitude in which it had been stuck for 25 years.

Then he got traded, and now he's helping another team win ballgames. Which is what you people wanted, so why are you so mad at him? Somebody please explain this to me.

I don't hate him. I just want him to retire (for real, this time) so I can go back to loving him.

He's become a symbol for the lowest level of Packer fan to me. The guys who call into radio shows and bitch about Rodgers, even though Rodgers has outplayed #4 this year. People forget that Favre kinda sucked at first too.

He's a symbol for the female Brett fans, that show up to bars with Jets clothing on and cheer for Brett's jets. Their Packer fandom timeline is 1995-2007.

As long as Brett is playing in the NFL, and he is not a Grenn Bay Packer, he is not a Green Bay Packer. He's jay Cutler to me. He's Tom Brady or Peyton manning to me. I think Brady is great too, but I also loved to see that arrogant prick get injured this year.

When they hang his number up all is forgiven. Untill then he can eat a bag of dicks. There were other great players on that '96 team too. QB is important, but Christ there's more to it than that.

.....and be nice to WV. He's a Cub fan. God has a given him worse torment than a million bloggers ever could.

Seriously, though... WV is basically a contributor here. He spurs conversation more than most of the random-commenting asshatters.

And I agree with AP about The Fav-ruh. When he retires, I'll get off his back. Till then, he's a QB for a different team. His numbskull skoal-sucking fans bitch that "if brett was here, the packers would still be winning, where's my sister, I wanna squeeze her tit." I swear to god I'm going to smack the next person who's so dumb they don't see that the DEFENSE has been the problem this year. And the DEFENSE is why Fav-ruh even got a ring. Wow I'm ranting. Gotta lay off the absinthe.

Agree with AP as well.

I was a Favre fan when he was with the Packers. I will be a Favre fan again in about 3 years. But right now, I wish Bernard Pollard would roll up on his kneee.

I know what Favre meant to the Packers. However, you can't completely dismiss the way he acted like a baby this offseason and the past couple offseasons.

He pulled this retirement stuff the past couple seasons. The organization needed to have a plan in place. they pushed him for a decision earlier this year than they have in the past becuase Rodgers was at the end of his contract after this season. The Packers needed to know what Favre was thinking so they could move on with their plans. Favre decided to retire and cry in front of evryone in Green Bay. At that point, most true Packers fans (Not Favre fans) were ready to move on. Favre became wishy-washy and it all went downhill from there.

Favre had his chance to remain a Packer and he retired.

Christ, I don't even remember where I am going with this, yah, anyone ion Wisconsin wearig a Jets favre jersey can eat a bag of dicks. Most likely a person who is a jackass who has few friends and likes to draw attention to themselves so people actually talk to them. This person started following the Packers in 1995 and could name up to, but not greater than 2 Packers from the 1980's.

Not to mention he spent 2 hours giving away Packer game plans to Matt Millen. It would be one thing if he spilled the beans to Mangini or the Jets, but he went out of his way to influence a game that should be of no concern to him.

I'd have almost no problem with him (or at least treat him like a QB from any opposing team), if he wasn't going out of his way to cry about how mean Ted was to him every chance he gets.

I don't believe for a second that Favre retired because HE wanted to. It's pretty obvious that Teddy Thompson forced him out to build his ultimate losing machine.

You can say all you want about how the defense is the issue... The issue is this team has no leader and no heart. A leader is not someone who wears a fucking knitted grandma cap. He's a twatbag. Perhaps he cut his Mullet because it wouldn't fit into his gay new hat?

I stated before this season even started that we would go 4-12 and that Thompson would be fired. When we lose to Detroit and go 5-11Thompson will be done.

At this point every Packer fan should be cheering for the Jets. Do you not want a better draft pick? This team sure as hell needs it!

Anonymous said...

Tauscher, Driver, Woodson, Harris, Kampman...those guys are not leaders?

And why do you consider Rodgers a twatbag? I don't get that as much as Matt doesnt get the hatred for Favre.

Matt said...

To be fair to Favre, Ted Thompson is a douchebag. He's right about that.

That's the guy you all should be mad at.

D'Amico's one good year said...

Clown-

Why would we want a better pick? So Thompson can trade it for fifty-million seventh-round picks? 'Cause you know that's what he'd do.

I stand by the statement that I've made about thirty billion times- With Favre, this team would have the same record or worse.

Matt- The hatred of Favre is the same as the hatred of an Ex-wife. You may have had 15 beautiful years of marriage, you may still love her... But damn if you're not pissed about the way it fell apart.

Where was Brett's "aura" and "leadership" when they went 4-12 and he was throwing 4th quarter INTs left and right?

I don't hate Brett Favre at all. I think he's douchey for unofficially retiring two years in a row and then officially last year, and then coming back. Sorry dude, I want to support you, but quit dicking me.

I love the Ted Thompson conspiracy theories. I'm sure he's sitting in his Packers castle, with the drawbridge up, surrounded by a dry moat of spikes, with the corpses of KGB and Favre impaled below, simply plotting how he can fuck the team in the ass next. lol please.

The guy makes idiot moves. So do a lot of GMs. If he gets fired, fine. If he doesn't fine. But if the TEAM doesn't do better in the next season or two, he'd better see the door. But to say he ruined the team is laughable. Why? Because all of you people are saying he ruined the team, but that if we had Brett Favre back we'd be 14-1. Really? So...actually the team's not ruined, just that if we had a quarterback with worse numbers we'd be doing better? Ok...

It IS the defense. The numbers don't lie. Although I'm not a fan of Rodgers having...what 7?...opportunities late in the 4th quarter to win a game and not being able to get the job done.

Matt said...

Everyone knows that it gets harder and harder to have a sustained aura once you get older.

AP, I also enjoy those fools on that fire Ted site. I think that their heart is in the right place, but the execution is often flawed.

D'Amico's one good year said...

Clown- Maybe his "aura" is tired from the constant strokejob that ESPEN! gives him.

Favre is my favorite QB ever... but seriously, come on. Rodgers, while a Cal-Berkley douchenozzle, has had a really, really good first year. He HAS NOT been the problem, and I'm hard pressed to blame his play for the multitude of losses the team as suffered this year. To think that having Bert Ferve would magically make it so this team would be 9-5 as opposed to 5-9 is pretty silly, and dismisses far too much blame that should be assigned to the horrible defense, special teams, and coaching.

I'm not going to argue the point that Favre gave Packers fans many good seasons, or that the way the spilt happened was less than ideal. All parties involved acted in what they thought was their best interest, and all parties did some pretty damn douchey things. But I do know that when the Packers were good it had as much to do with people like Ahman Green as it did Favre. He lost a lot of games for us, too.

speaking as a colts fan and for the sake of discussion, peyton manning has had terrible defenses over the years (including this year when bob sanders isn't playing), and he has had only one losing season.

not coincidentally, he has something like 35 fourth-quarter comebacks in his career.

seems relevant to the discussion.

lofty said...

peyton went 3-13 in his first season and they lost 5 games in which they had double digit leads at some point.

D'Amico's one good year said...

Peyton Manning is very, very good, and a different sort of QB than Favre.

I would argue that Manning has had a significant amount of offensive talent around him to compliment his abilities, much more so than many QBs, Favre included.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, it's just too bad Peyton isn't even the best Manning in the NFL right now.

Actually, if you include Daniel Manning on Chicago, Peyton might be 3rd.

He is better than Rex Manning though, so there's that.

WHY DID TED PUSH WILLIAM HENDERSON OUT!!!!!

Tim said...

Man, am I late to this party. I love Brett Favre. I loved the Packers before he was there, and I still do. For once in my life a dominant player was on my team and I got to cheer for him. What a ride. It sucks how it ended, and hopefully that will all be water under the bridge after a few years. I pull for him to be successful as a Jet, and have seen most of their games this year because he is playing in them, but no way in hell am I buying a Jets jersey or hat. I am a fan of the QB. How can I not be after 15 or so years of great football.

For the sake of argument, I think Favre may have given this Packer team one or two more victories because of his presence in the huddle. Yes the defense pissed away a lot of leads, but there were times that the Pack could have put games away with a TD, but settled for a FG. No matter what play was called from the sideline, no way is Favre handing the ball to Kuhn or some other fullback at the one. He might throw to him, but not hand off. I am pleased as hell with Rodger's first year, but still see that "oh, shit" look in his eyes when he gets the ball back with about 2 minutes to play needing a score. He'll get over that and be fine.
I could go on for hours about this, and often do, but don't want to crash this site. Jesus, 40 comments?!?

D'Amico's one good year said...

At least William would have gotten ONE FUCKING YARD.

I've been wondering... Why aren't they having Douchenozzle sneak it instead of having worthless John Kuhn run the ball?

D'Amico's one good year said...

@Tim-

I understand what you're saying, and it seems to echo Clown's point... But on the flip side of that, I could just as easily see Favre changing the play at the line and then throwing a heave to someone on the other team, as he was (and is) wont to do.

I think that moving forward was the correct move for the sake of the future of the Packers. There was no way that the team was going to have a year like they did last year... Even if Favre hadn't retired, this team would be NOT GOOD.

I will say that the way everything went down probably did a fair bit of damage in the locker room. That probably has carried over into this season. Favre not retiring may have avoided my assumed locker room issues.

Tim said...

Back @ DOGY
I agree with what you say. I would still take a Favre heave over Kuhn plowing into 7 guys any day. The way this all went down sucks ass, and even if they did win a game or two more with Favre it would have just prolonged some of this for another year. It just was fun having him on my team and never having the feeling that you were out of the game. You knew that his crazy style of play would break your heart often, but twice as often the results were positive.

D'Amico's one good year said...

@Tim-

Thats about how i feel, too. I;ve just moved on, i think Rodgers will be an good QB, and with a good D we wouldn't be missing Mr. Brett.

Charlie Marlow said...

So...my boss is a Vikings fan, and three of my closest friends are Bears fans. Let me preface the following comments by saying I wasn't 'happy' to see Favre go to the Jets. I was happy to see him retire a Packer. Then I was irritated that he wanted to come back...again. But things played out the way they did.

My boss and my friends all agree, however, that no Vikings or Bears fans are sad that Favre is playing in New York.

Anonymous said...

AP. Really? Did you stop watching the season after the first few games of the year when Peyton was recovering from knee surgery (even Peyton-hater Bill Simmons has said what he did was remarkable).

As far as comparing Mannings:

Manning A: 335-514, 65.2 percent, 3,543 yards, 23 TDs, 12 INT, 90.3 rating.

Manning B: 261-433, 60.3 percent, 2,938 yards, 20 TDs, 10 INT, 86.4 rating.

Oh, and Aaron Rodgers has led the Pack to a 5-9 record with basically the same number of injuries that the Colts (and most other NFL teams) have experienced.

So ... keep blaming the losses on the defense, but good quarterbacks bring their teams back in the fourth quarter. And they do it regularly.

Anonymous said...

It's Ned Yost's fault.

WV - your point is valid. IF Favre was the type of QB that: "bring their teams back in the fourth quarter. And they do it regularly."

He used to do this regularly in 1997. It's now 2008. Can't really remember the last time he did this regularly, like Manning. Especially in the Playoffs.

D'Amico's one good year said...

WV-

And Peytons record in his first year was??? And he threw how many intereceptions?

Yeah.

Look, Rodgers isn't Manning, and he's not Vintage Favre (but who is, really?) But he IS a VERY competent NFL QB in his first year starting. If you put Peyton Manning on this Packers team, do you really think they'd be 9-5/10-4? I don't. They WOULD have a slightly better record, as Manning is a veteran and would call better plays than Philbin does. But he can't play DE, or LB.

D'Amico's one good year said...

Brad-

YES. Exactly. This Brett is not the Brett we grew up with. He doesn't have the physical abilities that he used to have that compensated for his poor choices. I can't think of how many times in the past eight years i've sat in front of my TV just shouting "No, Brett, No!" before he even threw the pass because you KNEW he was going to do something stupid because he used to be able to.

Anonymous said...

dogy -

he was 3-13 with 26 TDs and 28 INTs.

but - and this is a big but - peyton manning was a 22-year-old rookie starting for a team that was 3-13 the year before.

aaron rodgers is now 25 and is in his 4th year in the NFL starting for a team that was 13-3 the year before.

as far as switching teams, i'm happy to play that game.

how would mr. rodgers fare on a colts team that has lost an all-pro center, the defensive player of the year, its starting tailback, two starting linebackers and others for appreciable amounts of time?

Anonymous said...

(and, by the way, i don't care about the rodgers-favre thing. it's just when you badmouth peyton manning ... well, we're going to have words, mister.)

D'Amico's one good year said...

WV-

Not as well as Peyton Manning. Because Peyton Manning is a better quarterback. I wasn't arguing that point. There's really no comparison between the two. But that does not make Rodgers a bad quarterback. BTW, that the team was 13-3 last year means nothing. That was last year. The team is not as good as it was last year, but that has NOTHING to do with the quarterback play/passing game.

What I AM arguing is this idiotic notion that if the Packers still had Favre they'd be in a better situation.
I don't know how many of the Packers games you've actually watched, but the defense is atrocious. The offense is fine. They put up plenty of points. The D can't stop ANYONE. So yeah, it's worse than your Colts D. The Colts also have better coaching and a better system. So what? If you put Manning on the Packers, the Packers defense would still be giving up seventeen million points a game.

D'Amico's one good year said...

I didn't badmouth Peyton. He's very good, has good coaching and good players around him. He's better than Rodgers. But in his first year starting, he was just *meh*, and his team didn't win. That's all.

Anonymous said...

1. you were comparing a 22-year-old manning who inherited a 3-13 team to a 25-year-old rodgers who inherited a 13-3 team. that certainly is relevant.

2. i didn't say you badmouthed manning. AP did (third best manning).

3. the colts defense likely is better than the pack defense was this year (though not by much, especially when sanders is out), but what about in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 and so on - and even in the super bowl year - when it was consistently ranked in the bottom 4 in the NFL? there have been few defenses worse than those - and yet the colts consistently won in double digits. it is possible to overcome a crappy defense.

D'Amico's one good year said...

WV-

I'm merely compairing numbers, and first years. And Rodgers certainly has had the benefit of having the years and practice reps so that this year came more naturally than Peytons first year did. I'm really just saying that Rodgers has had a damn fine first year (statistically speaking.)

As for the Ds... Do NOT compair those defenses to the one the Packers have be running out there for the last 5-6 weeks. I will say that this year has been the worst defense I've seen in a long time. At least your Colts had a pass rush. We got shredded by David Garrard, the Neanderthal.

D'Amico's one good year said...

And really, Manning has little to do with the discussion at hand. He (Manning) is a trancendent player, once in a generation type QB.

I don't ask or expect that of Rodgers. Rodgers has played well enough that if he were on a team with a competent defense, he'd be a pro bowler. Instead, he's on this shit wagon, so he's not. If the team could defend, no one would be talking about Favre's missing "aura" or any of that nonsense.

Matt said...

Brad, Favre brought the team back late to win 3 games last year for the Packers - vs. San Diego, Denver and KC. I guess you could also count the Philly game but that was set up by a muffed punt so I won't.

Is that recent enough for you?

wv23 said...

he hasn't done it this year, though.

D'Amico's one good year said...

If last years team's defense performed like this years team, there wouldn't have been a 13-3 record, and Favre's excellent season wouldn't have mattered, either. Brett had a good season last year, but the defense was a big factor in that teams record.

Anonymous said...

SD was a Barnett INT for a TD. Denver was tied in OT, not a 2 minutes left "comeback" that Rodgers gets crushed for. They did take the lead in the KC game with 3 minutes left, then was iced by a FG and Woody pick for TD....again, not a "down 4, 2 minutes left" situation. Rodgers has also scored later in the 4th to tie or get the lead...only to see the defense give up an 80 yard drive in about 90 seconds to lose.

Matt - Thanks for keeping the flames stoked, though.

I guess my final thought on this topic is this...maybe I'm wrong:

When the Packers won, Favre got all the credit. When the Packers lost, Favre didn't get any of the blame.
