Quick Badger Basketball Thoughts

I was exchanging e-mails with a fairly prominent player in the potato chip industry this morning and said the following about the upcoming Badger basketball season. This is just my initial, off the cuff, not a lot of thought involved take. A better preview will be coming closer to the start of the season.

I am excited for the Badgers. No lofty expectations this year. Which means it will be even better when they finish in the top 3 of the Big Ten again. Hughes really needs to step it up this year. He was good last year, but he has to take it to the next level for this team to go places. Losing Flowers is going to hurt a ton. It will be interesting to see how Bohannon holds up in a starting role. It was great to see him starting to take the ball to the hoop at the end of last season. I am looking for a Wilkinson-esq season from Landry. Very solid. Landry showed he could hit the mid-range jumper last season. That will be huge if they put bigger guys on him and they can draw him outside. You know what you will get with Krabbenhoft. Would like to see his mid-range improve. That would be huge. The fun part will be seeing who steps up to earn PT. How good will Jarmusz and Luer be this year. Can Gullickson provide positive minutes (15 per game?) Will Nankivil step up? What about one of the freshman big guys (Bergerren or Markolv). Who the heck is the back up PG when Hughes rolls his ankle again this year? Should be fun.

Also, if you are looking for a good Badger basketball blog, I would check out Hoops Marinara. This guy tells it like it is and provides good analysis.

I’ve seen this act before: Play better than expected, win 28 game in a weak Big-11, methodically climb the polls, everybody wonders how Bo does it year in and year out, get a 4 seed, lose to the first higher seed they face. I’ve already read this book.

Brad, have you read this book:

Start the season in the top 10 of the polls, play nobody in the nonconference, beat UConn or somebody early in the conference season, rise to #7, lose several games to the DePauls of the world in February, hover around .500 in the league, bow out of the conference tournament in the quarters, go to the NCAAs as a 7 seed, lose in the first round.

Yes, except the chapters about starting in the top 10 (when did that happen?), rise to #7 (ditto), and hover around .500 in conference play(ditto).

Maybe my version of that book is in Indiana?
