Some things to think about...

Here's a few tidbits to keep in mind as the Brewers enter the "Most important series of the year," which could probably be said about every series now until the magic number is 0.

K bye Laynce Nix!!! The former roid user was DFA'd to make room for newly acquired...wait for it...Todd Coffey! With Riske apparently hurt and Gagne basically forgotten about (we hope anyway), this guy could end up playing a significant role down the stretch. He has the stuff...but ummm...hasn't had it in two years. So we'll see how this turns out.

The freaking Astros man...are you kidding me? 4 games back?! 9-1 over there last 10? They've got 1 more win today against the Pirates but then they play the Cubs. With the Brewers hoping for a split in Philly, let's hope the Cubs can knock down the Astros a little bit. Otherwise, after this series we could be looking at Houston in the rear view mirror 1 or 2 games back. THAT...would suck.

Gabe Kapler is apparently hurt. Kapler being hurt = more TGJ time = NOT GOOD.

Everybody knock on wood right now...ok now do it again...because Guillermo Mota is on fire and back on his soul owning regimen. Check out his splits...take a look at the ERA for the last 28 days...how is 0 to your liking huh?? I guess he's on something like a 15 consecutive scoreless outing streak. With as streaky as he has been his whole career (and this year), now is the time to ride him. When he's hot...he's hot.

So for bullpen purposes, this is who needs to be on call from here on out when games are on the line (up or down 2 runs):

5-6 innings: McClung first, perhaps Coffey or Defilice 2nd option
7th inning: Carlos...(Shouse in situational settings)
8th inning: Mota...(Shouse in situational)
9th inning: Torres

This is it. I don't want to see Riske or Gagne anymore in any high leverage situations. Time to pull out all the stops and go with who's proven and who's hot. These are the hot & proven guys.

All we need is a split in Philly.

I think I said a week or two ago that Houston could still be a factor. They play Pittsburgh a ton in the final month.

And the Pirates, unlike the Reds, have thus far appeared to have no interest in playing spoiler.

This latest hurricane is going to F up the series with the Cubs in Houston, so it will be interesting to see what MLB does about that.

For a dude that is in as good of shape as Kapler, he sure seems to get injured in silly ways.

Running into walls, throwing a ball....

Let's hope for a quick recovery so we don't have to see Brad the Lard Nelson in every pincn hit situation.

PS: Doesn't Brad Nelson look EXACTLY like the He-Man dude Ram-Man??!

You also can't forget when Gabe tore his Achilles while on base when Graffy hit a home run. Bonus Sveum mention in the article.

I didn't even know about this. What the hell is with him and tripping!? He just tripped and fell at second a couple days ago.

I think we need to check Kapler for the Juice! (O.J. and Vodka that is)

It's gotta be Sveum's fault. He's the only common element.

I would certainly not say that Gagne is lost and forgotten as he was in just a night ago in a pressure filled situation and struck the guy out with his seventh strike of the AB at the ump had no concept of a consistent strike zone. Not to mention Ned likes him which is an ominous sign for any reliever

That's exactly the problem with Gagne and why he can't be trusted with must win games. He's a sneaky bastard that will look really good for one game and then give up back to back homers the next night.

I don't know why they are going out and picking up Coffey when they aren't using DeFelice and Dillard at all. If I remember correctly they both pitched well earlier in the year, especially DeFelice. So, let's go ahead and burn out Shouse, Mota etc. Good call Yost.

Although, it finally got rid of laynce steamingbagofshit Nix, so at least we have that...

If we need a new set-up man, I vote Shouse. That guy is always fun to watch.

BRING BACK TURNBOW.

Yes, I realize that he is injured and most likely out of baseball. I just like saying that.

Don't forget about Gallardo. Last I heard was this:

He'd be huge in the bullpen. Well, he could be.
