If the Crew had a chance to get Joe Torre as manager, should they do it and can Yost?

Torre made $8 million last year and his strengths are managing a veteran line-up and keeping all the superstar egos in check. He maybe a better in game manager then Yost but I don’t think he is a guy who can develop talent. His track record shoes that before he got to New York.
so braun, prince and others need to be developed? they're already in the big leagues and performing at a very high level.
jeter was a rookie when he got there. posada was a rookie. soriano came up while he was there. rivera became the closer under torre. cano came up under torre. all of these guys were home grown. in fact, an argument could be made he had his greatest success with the homegrown talent (jeter, cano, bernie, posada and not the big free agent signings...
Ned Yost made 825K last year. Joe Torre made 7.5 Million.
There is no way Torre makes that much again (if) when he signs with another team. Somewhere in the 3.5-4M range is what I am thinking.
So then you have to ask yourself...do you really want to drop an extra 3 million on a MANAGER? That 3 million could be used to bring back Linebrink or some other veteran reliever...something we desperately need (more valuable than any manager...).
That being said...I'd say Melvin should give Torre's agent a call and say..."2 years, 1.5M each...make it to the Playoffs either year and you get a 3rd year for 3M" (throw in some other bonuses).
I think we can forget about Torre coming to Milwaukee - let's be honest with ourselves here.
I heard an advertisement on the radio on my way to work that they're running a 2-hour Sportscenter special this afternoon on Joe Torre. Seriously. I hate ESPN.
I've been meaning to get back to you, good point. My bad. Sometimes all their homegrown talent gets overlooked as "homegrown" with their reputation for being big spenders on the free agent market. But you are right. Homer last night was also saying he likes Yost alot but Mark has to at least look at the possibility. My guess is he ends up in LA.

Oh yeah so my vote is no.

Brad, I think if the Brewers had a chance to get Jerry Royster or Davey Lopes instead of Yost you'd support that.
I'd have to think about that one...how about Tom Treblehorn? Is he still alive?

Yeah, Torre's not coming. I was just asking a hypathetical (sp).
joe girardi...that is all!
So does this make Joe torre less Now?
What about the corpse of Billy Martin? Cheaper than Torre. Better in-game manager than Yost.
Wrigleyville,
