Morning Baseball?

Brewers face the always tough Tommy Gorzalany today. Dave "Let's try to make it out of the first inning" Bush goes for your first place Brewers.

Speaking of, some nerd computed the postseason odds of every team. Despite being tied for first (when this was computed), the Cubs had a better chance to win the division and World Series. Maybe this geek was using the calculator shown above. That would be the Wang Model 360E, by the way. And why is it hooked up to a Sears Die hard? Story Link.

That is a big Wang.

Good to see the Astros still have a chance to win the division.

Powell with the quote of the game so far. (Asking seriously) "Is Prince the type of guy you could see hitting 600-700 home runs?"

Uecker: (Not serious) "I'm thinking 900-1000!"

2 walks a hit bateer and a single. Time to get the pen up. Vargas maybe?

Bushie doing his Capuano impression.....it's dead on.

4-2 Pirates...bottom 7th....some guy on the hill for the Crew. This spells trouble.

I'd have to say one of the better feelings when you are sitting in a cubicle is when you're watching gamecast and it says..."incoming pitch has been hit in play..." then you realize Corey Hart has tripled to deep center.

AWESOME

If Bill Hall grounds into another DP I am going to snap.

Bill Hall isn't even at the "just a guy" level right now.

Anonymous said...

I'd give him jag status

DBow - Walk, walk, single. Take him out!

Anonymous said...

too late. the rockstar burns us again.

Anonymous said...

A little too late Ned.

Anonymous said...

Dbow - just a guy who throws meatballs...

Anonymous said...

He's managing every game like it's the last, right? Leave Turnbow in when the pen is full of guys.....again though.....it's up to the players to execute.

Anonymous said...

I also would have liked to see Gross bat in the 8th or Miller pinch ran for in the 7th.

Anonymous said...

Ray Ray could have started the 8th, I thought Ned said he was playing the hotter hand. WTF?

Anonymous said...

i blame ned for me having a cold right now. damn him. seriously when do you blame the players for not getting the job done? just curious

Anonymous said...

Anytime now to answer your question. I think Ned isn't perfect by any stretch of the imagination but he puts these guys in position to win and they come up short, is that Ned’s fault? Chopp, Ap, anyone want to take another shot at Ned and tell me it isn't the players fault at all...

Jenkins in a tight game batting VS. a LHP....should that ever happen....I'll take Estrada there. No, Johnny's not great....but my mother hits lefties better than Jenkins. Oh but wait, that's a small sample of the last 3 years so ned probably knows better.

Turnbow sucked today, no doubt, but offday tomorrow+ full pen= pull him if he gets wild.

Turnbow's 8th-K, 5 pitch BB, ANOTHER 5 pitch BB (Should've pulled him right there), Single (Why's he in at this point?), Fly out, Triple.

Again, Cordero, Linebrink, anyone else at that point.

I realize the players sucked today. Hall, Jenkins, Turnblow, all SUCKED! But there's got to be at least SOME room for Yost criticism there.....

Anonymous said...

they pinch hit jenkins and then the pirates countered after he was announced and brought in a lefty, come on

Anonymous said...

Ok....COUNTER BACK!

Anonymous said...

and then if they bring the RHP in for Johnny, go Gabe Gross....and so on.

Until you get a matchup you like, or at least one that doesn't involve useless Jenkins batting VS a LHP.

Anonymous said...

too bad your not allowed to keep countering back like that. learn the rules

I'll agree I hammer Ned as often as possible. Again, I haven't liked him for over 3 years now...so, why would that change? Because he has better players (thus, a better record) now? You ask me if I ever blame the players. Yes. I blame them when they should to do better. I've banged on Weeks, Billy, Jenks, Estrada, Turnbow, Cappy, Vargas, etc all year. That said, I know the possibility of Aquino getting the job done isn't close to as good as the possibility of Cordero doing the same job.

You ask if I ever rip on the players for not getting the job done....have you ever criticized Ned for doing a poor job? Ever?

Or were you the guy watching the Don Morton Badgers saying "Go get the job done...that veer offense would work if you just did your job. Morton's the coach, I have to support all his decisions."

Anonymous said...

What's all this "the players should do their job" stuff, anyway? If a batter does his job, he's on base. But what if a pitcher does his job as well? Then the batter is out. Something's got to give!!! It's impossible to expect a player to "get the job done" when the opposing player is doing the exact same thing!

That's deep anonymous

Tony, answer the questions! (I sound like that classic John McEnroe clip...."Answer the question JERK!!))

Anonymous said...

I tend to side with Yost but you can't let Hall bat in the 8th. By all accounts, his previous at-bats looked horrible. I know if you PH Gross, they would bring in their lefty, but I would rather have Gross up against a lefty than Hall in that situation.
The Miller deal in the 7th isn't that big of a deal. If they would have had a PR, he probably would have scored on the double, but I can understand not replacing Miller at that point.

Anonymous said...

"too bad your not allowed to keep countering back like that. learn the rules "

Are you saying it was against the rules to bat Estrada or Rivera there???

Anonymous said...

sure i blame yost a lot for things but am also smart enough to know that many things we don't know about go into his decision making. he's not trying to fuck up on purpose, i can guarantee he wants to win way more than us. second guessing is just not my game.

Anonymous said...

Chopp, first off settle down,

Secondly, yes I tend to side with Yost and believe that he has more hands on, day to day interaction with his squad then a guy sitting in his cube drawing maps in Madison. He might know a thing or two.

That said I have never said Yost is perfect. In just my last post I said Yost isn’t perfect by any stretch I also questioned earlier in this thread why not go with Ray, Ray instead of Turnblow. Ned said he was playing his “hot hand” when talking about his outfield rotation why not his pen.

As for Don Morton please I am year older then you and my only recollection of Don Morton is folklore. Barry is the only Badger Coach of relevance to our age group, your not 45 – JERK.

Anonymous said...

Its not second guessing if you rip on his moves before you see the outcome...and you are correct. I see Brad recommended pulling Turnbow before he gave up the two run triple. After 2 walks and a single, it was obvious Turnbow didn't have it. That's not second guessing. Its first guessing, I guess.

Anonymous said...

Of course Ned knows more than me. Hell, I HOPE he knows more than me!!

Morton was an example. How about Lindy Infante. Or, I know you are a Bears fan, Dave Wannstadt?

Anonymous said...

you are a Cubs fan anyway...

Brewers go into a 6-game road trip to Cincinnati and Pittsburgh (2 places they don't play well) tied for the NL Central lead, and come home at worst tied for the NL Central lead with 18 games left.

Good times in Brewers land, if you ask me.

Anonymous said...

Ouch

Tony, just one more question: You rip on me for banging on Yost...why don't you bang on Goldy for questioning Bielema's decision about the starting QB?? Or why not rip on Matt for questioning Ted Thompson's decisions? Bielema knows more than Goldy about footbal.

Anonymous said...

Yikes! Thats what its come to? Splitting with the Reds and Pirates!!!

Anonymous said...

Brad you gave up on the Brewers in July so why do you care?

You have the 1 yard and a cloud of dust Green Bay Packers to follow now.

Anonymous said...

I gave up on the Brewers in the same way I've given up on High Life...that only lasts about 3 days. Max.

I don't know which Packer team you were watching, but it was 2.3 yards per carry and a cloud of dust!

Anonymous said...

rule-wise, Yost could have pinch-hit for Jenkins there and the Pirates are not allowed to change again. the batting team can change batters twice, the pitching team can only change pitchers once.

Anonymous said...

I've heard conflicting reports on the rules, and i can't find anything in the rules online that says that either team can't go back or forth until their bench is depleted there.....

Regardless....

I know that Jenkins could've been pinch hit for in that situation. I know at least that much. I also know that possibly the two worst scenarios for this team is Mench in a crucial situation VS. a RHP, & the same for Jenkins VS. a LHP. I mean, that's why they platoon in the first place....

But I've seen in the last 3 weeks Mench (CHI) & Jenks (PIT) face those guys in big, BIG, game winning situations. I just know that that's not smart. Couple that w/ using Aquino (HOU) the other day in a crucial situation, and I'm just going to offer that Yost doesn't seem to be managing high leverage situations well....Fair?

OH, BTW anonymous.....

Rule 3.03, which states, in part: "A player, or players, may be substituted during a game at any time the ball is dead. A substitute player shall bat in the replaced player's position in the team's batting order."

Thus, you could put in your entire bench during one at bat if you wanted.

Perhaps you should brush up on the rules yourself.....

I'm a different anonymous than the earlier, FWIW. just trying to add some clarity on this specific situation.
