Damn you ESPN 2

Note to Lions: Probably shouldn't leave Sterling Sharpe this wide open with a minute left.

So, I get home from work, take the dog for a walk and flip on the tv before making dinner. On ESPN2 is NFL's Greatest Games: 1993 NFC Wild Card Packers vs. Lions. If you remember the Packers lost at Detroit the last week of the season meaning the Lions would host this playoff game. I think this game was on a Saturday and I was so juiced for it since it was the first Packers playoff game of my life.

Seriously, watching the show on ESPN2 today gave me goosebumps. I'll never forget how excited I was when Teague ran back that pick. When it happened, I remember telling my Dad that it was just like when he returned an INT for a TD in the Sugar Bowl for Alabama the year before. Then that pass to Sharpe. It was crazy. The Lions DB gave up on the play and the safety came up to jump a route that Ed West was running. The best WR in the NFL was left wide open with 1 minute to go in a playoff game. I think that is the most excited I have ever been for a single play in my entire life. I was pretty excited when the UCLA QB (Wayne Cook?) ran in the middle of the field with no time outs in the 94 Rose Bowl, but the pass to Sharpe was the most exciting play I have ever watched for my team.

So, I was pretty pumped after watching that, but the programming geniuses at ESPN2 follow that up with NFLs Greatest Games: 1999 (1998 season) NFC Divisional Playoffs Packers vs. 49ers. Talk about a kick to the nuts. My hate of that game is well documented, but I swear that I turn on ESPN2 every time they show this stupid game. It has to be the most aired episode of the NFLs Greatest Games series. Ugh.

It did suck that the 49er game came on after it, but that Detroit game was awesome. When Favre threw that last unbelievable touchdown to Sharpe, I remember that being the first time in my life when it seemed like one of my teams could actually contend. Biggest surprise of that game that I didn't remember, T-Buc with a interception in the endzone while covering Herman Moore.

The other big surprise was how wide open Mark Clayton was on that play in the 4th Quarter where Favre could not keep the ball in bounds. Forgot about that.

I like to watch the first half of the '97 Super Bowl highlights, but I swear to god if I see John Elway spinning on the 1 yard line again I'm going to puke. (Thats a funny word, Puke, can I use that?)

Dan,

I think we would also accept "blow chunks" and "hurl".
