Fun With Numbers

Astonishing Stat #1:

The Brewers are a ridiculous 14-3 in Claudio Vargas' 17 starts this year. I have not confirmed that this is the best winning percentage in the league for a team in one of its pitcher's starts, because the crack Chuckie Hacks research staff is currently embroiled in a nasty holdout (we're not moving off of our final offer of $0 per hour), but I'm going to go ahead and assume that it is.

Astonishing Stat #2:

Ryan Braun just became the first player to hit 15 home runs in his first 50 games in the big leagues since Albert Poo-Holes. That's decent company. What idiots were saying that he was fine in the minor leagues because the Graffanino/Counsell platoon was winning ballgames? What, you say, I said that? Man I've never been so happy to be proven wrong.

I believe the Brewers are a perfect 10-0 in games that Vargas starts at Miller park. I would think stats like these would be the reason Vargas isn't going to the bullpen this season.

Vargas' season might go down in the annals of sports history as one of the greatest disparities between ability and results ever recorded in modern sports.

Right up there with the Steve Bono-led 1995 Kansas City Chiefs, the worst 13-3 team in the history of the NFL.

I think I saw several people at Fish Day who are unemployed and may want to be our statistician. I think we could just pay them in tatoos.
