There was a post on the Astros blog in the "NL CENTRAL FOES" list about Woody Williams the other day. Judging by his numbers & the posts that 'stros fans are writing about him, the guy is beyond horrible. (Although his career #'s are very respectable.) Plus, this will be the 2nd time the Crew sees him this year, and we usually hit a little better (it seems) after we get familiar with an opposing pitcher. We got an off day coming up, and we are only traveling about 90 miles in the next series, so I really don't want to see one of Ned's famous "day game/get-away day" lineups. SWEEP THE 'STROS! We can totally do this.....
Agreed w/Suppan, he needs to get back to April form, and I couldn't believe the other day when I saw his ERA is still under 5.00.
To clarify the JV team comment, I am OK w/ Miller playing to rest a catcher. I might even be OK with Counsell subbing for Hardy/Braun or something like that. Past that, the line up should be pretty easy to make out right now.
It's good to finally see JJ, Prince, RW, & the Hebrew Hammer all in the same lineup together again. I believe last night was the 1st time "the Future" has all played together since Weeks went on the DL. (May 30th?)
"I have waited for the Brew Crew to be in first this late in the season for what seems like my entire life. I never actually thought it would be possible that when it DID happen, I would hate the team as much as I do right now. This team is awful; I want to win because our team is good not because our division is bad."
Still hate the team AP? This "awful" team is going to be in first the rest of the year. I hope that you will be able to stomach watching this "awful" team when the playoffs roll around.
Losing 20 of 30 is indeed awful Woz...and Yost isn't tinkering w/ the lineup anymore which seems to be working. I will admit, I was wrong. I could mention things you said about not calling up Braun though, and how I was calling for him to be up, but I won't.
You don't have like a "shrine of hatred" erected of me at home, do you WOZ.
Sounds like somebody disrespected somebody else's dojo.
Kreese: This is a karate dojo, not a knitting class. You don't come into my dojo, drop a challenge and leave, old man. Now you get your boy on the mat, or you and I will have a major problem. Miyagi: Too much advantage. Your dojo. Kreese: Name a place. Miyagi: Tournament. Kreese: [laughs] You've got real nerve, old man. Real nerve. But I think we can accomodate you. Can't we, Mr. Lawrence? Johnny Lawrence: Yes, sensei.
You're the best! Around! Nothing's gonna ever keep you down You're the Best! Around! Nothing's gonna ever keep you down You're the Best! Around! Nothing's gonna ever keep you dow-ow-ow-ow-own
....and yes there are still plenty of things I hate about this team, because I believe that unless you go 162-0 every team in the majors should try to improve if possible.
I hate: Estrada's insistince on swinging at the 1st pitch every time, Estrada's defense thus far, the lack of LHP's in the bullpen for a team that is talking "playoffs", the fact that Gross is on the team & Gwynn is in AAA, Dave Bush, Jose Capellan, Geoff Jenkins, every now & again Yost's decision making, anyone who thinks this team is "fine the way it is", CC's batting stance, and the fact that the Cubs are playing great recently and the division isn't over yet.
I was wrong about the team being awful....I am an idiot....this is my penance and now I feel cleansed.
On 1250's post game last night they were doing this were people would call in and admit to what they were wrong about at various points of the year. It was interesting and I admitted my faults to a lot of listeners.
There, you got me Woz. However, I would think there has probably been something you, and others, were mistaken on, and I humbly beseech you to cleanse your soul as I have.
Krey should feel really good about himself since he admitted 2 things he was wrong about. See, doesn't this make everyone feel better? I implore you Woz, tear down your hate shrine to me. You might actually like me if you met me. I like sports, I like poker, and I think we have a lot in common. In my defense, I bitch about the Brewers because I attend like 40 games each year and I am emotionally invested. Some fans are "glass half full" & some are the opposite, but they are equally fans. I think Mr. Myagi would be proud of that last statement.
Gross falls back under the Mendoza line. Can he finish the season over .200? This will be a dramatic saga I will stay on top of. (It would make me happy if this ends up being one of the things I am wrong about.)
I bet anonymous wishes they weren't anonymous now...
I'm guessing that was Billy, given his past record (predicting Zach Johnson would win the Masters after round 1, and predicting that Joe Thomas would fish on the Foxy Lady in Port during the NFL Draft)

"day game/get-away day" lineups...IE, the Varisty Reserve lineup? Suppan really needs a good outing here. He's been scuffling for some time now.

Here's a comment by AP from May 24:

At one time, I found Katie Holmes to be attractive.
Now, not so much.
I feel much better about that.
I have been wrong for 25 years, I hope I am right this year! And I am right about Kevin Mench.
-Krey
I was also wrong about Pat Listach

I was wrong about Vanilla Ice...thought he was the next Dre.
Well, in the end, Dre Day only meant Eazy's payday.
First pitch! Strike from Jeffrey!
Nice 1st inning, 'Sup....and good job sticking w/ that lineup Ned. I like our chances today....
Billy with a RBI!
Miller as well.....Crew strikes first!
Hey! A quality start from Suppan! KICK ASS!
Suppan is leaking oil...
...nevermind. I didnt realize it was through 6 already.
Gross falls back under the Mendoza line. Can he finish the season over .200? This will be a dramatic saga I will stay on top of. (It would make me happy if this ends up being one of the things I am wrong about.)
On to the Astros bullpen!
Also, Wise pitching two days in a row. That's something!
Turnbow throws a nice inning, gets through the meat of the 'stros order in Pence, Berkman, & Lee. Nice work Turnbow.
I was going to put down something about Jenkins day so far.....then he singled so....oh wait no then he got picked off. Nice Game Glue!
D. Miller HR for the win. That is going out on a limb, but you heard it here first.
Or Not
Yeah!! Bush is in relief...that means his start will be skipped!
Wish I would have taken advantage of "National Skip out of work Day"
-Krey
Anonymous called it, just a few innings early.
That's a wrap - walkoff, baby!
I bet anonymous wishes they weren't anonymous now...
I'm guessing that was Billy, given his past record (predicting Zach Johnson would win the Masters after round 1, and predicting that Joe Thomas would fish on the Foxy Lady in Port during the NFL Draft)
35 comments? Is that a new record for one post? Nice work boys and lady (we have to have at least one, anyone?
AP it took you four posts to rebut woz. Let it go,
People love to pile on....
Nice call on the Miller walk off by anonymous. Is this pretty much official now, Bush in the pen and out of the rotation?
That T-Shirt never gets old.
I think Woz needs to wear a Sweep the Leg t-shirt during his upcoming WSOP appearance.
