Brewer Breakdown - Second Base

Like his chubby buddy playing first, Rickie Weeks has multiple All-Star potential and figures to be a fixture in the Brewers lineup for years to come. 2006 stats: .279, 8 HR, 34 RBI, 19 swipes, in 95 games.

The Good: I’m a big fan of all around players and Rick fits into this category. He can hit, hit for power (eventually) and run like a deer. He doesn't run like there's a Buick on his back...rare for a Brewer. I thought his aggressiveness at the plate would not serve him well in the leadoff spot…I was wrong as Weeks flourished batting first. Plus, after an atrocious start in the field, he became almost “sure handed” before the injury. Legitimate 30-30 potential. Projects as more of a #2 or 3 hitter.

The Bad: Defense. Although improving, Rick is still only considered average at best defensively. Weeks suffered from a strange injury by hurting his wrist in the dugout by flicking his bat back and forth. What would happen if he actually made physical contact with someone? Death? Also, for whatever reason, Weeks seems to be in the middle of every boneheaded play (pickoff at second, airmailing a throw…) the Brewers make. He looks like Fred Flintstone when he runs.

2007 Prediction: .288, 18 bombs, 70 RBIs, 31 steals.

Grade: B+. Those numbers are hard to come by from the 2B position.
